When pondering about the effects of technological revolutions on the labor market, listen to economists who have studied the effects of past technological revolutions on the labor market. Never listen to computer scientists.

This Stanford Professor encourages PIs to flood the unpaid, all volunteer NIH review system with past, rejected grants. Not only is a burden on reviewers, resubmitting rejected grants as new AO grants violates NIH policy unless the grant is substantially revised.

Shameful post that essentially accuses a former NIH official of racism.

Fantastic. The momentum among private funders to disallow journal fees continues to build. @NIH should follow suit. “In the coming 1-2 years, HHMI will seek to replace APC payments from HHMI lab budgets with centralized support of publisher service fees, including transparent peer review services for preprints.” Full text of the policy: hhmicdn.blob.core.windows.ne…

Good article in @WSJ. Why does everyone hate pharma companies? They are literally the most "useful" companies, yet continously vilified. It boggles the mind. wsj.com/opinion/donald-trump…

Of all RFK Jr's dangerously wrong opinions - his attack on HPV vaccines is the worst (and that really is saying something) HPV vaccines like Gardasil PREVENT cancer - so effectively that cervical cancer is on the way to ELIMINATION in places like Scotland, Sweden and Australia.

An NIH staffer reacts to today's ruling: "I'm looking forward to the day that we are so slammed with work trying to reinstate everything that we had to terminate illegally — I'll work 24/7 to make that happen if I can." My story for @Nature nature.com/articles/d41586-0…

What does a 40% NIH budget cut mean for funding chances (now ~15%)? You might think “60% of the money left = 9% success” ❌ NOPE!!! 1-3% because 80% of the budget is for existing grants New science? Starved Ongoing grants? Slashed 😢 #FundingScienceSavesLives

By a pretty huge margin Americans think that having international students at US universities is good for the country, not bad -- 56% to 14% ( 42)

When boomers are done, the median first-time home buyer will be 48, the national debt will be 60 trillion, the code of federal regulations will be a quarter million pages long, and they will not at any point have been vaguely aware of what they did to this nation.
What a graph. The median age of first-time home buyers is spiking, now approaching 40.

1/ This graph from @JonBruner tells an important story: America's current dominance in science only began after the mid-1930s, when persecuted scientists began fleeing universities in Germany and then elsewhere in occupied Europe.

Apparently still needs to be said: If we're trying to compete with China in advanced tech, this is *insane*. Even if this specific pause doesn't last long, every anti-international-student policy deters more top talent from choosing the US in years to come. Irreversible damage.

Imaging across scales in Singapore: Friday saw the inauguration of the first installed MIRAVA POLYSCOPE worldwide! Featuring confocal, MATRIX, STED, and MINFLUX capabilities, it facilitates imaging from millimeter resolution down to 3.2 nanometers.
