This was seen in an Auramine-Rhodamine stain of a positive MGIT. Looks like it's celebrating the year of the dragon! 🐉🐲 What is this phenomenon called?

Eikenella corrodens recovered from positive blood cultures. One set also grew strep anginosus. Small gram negative rods, pit the agar, produce a bleach like odor, oxidase positive. #bacteriology #microbiology #eikenella

There’s a special place in hell for coworkers who do stuff like this in the laboratory. It was worse a few days ago bc the tubes going forwarded were blocking the tubes from falling down 😠😡🤬

I'll die on this hill: Hospitals should not charge patients or staff to park. For patients, it disproportionally affects those with the lowest economic status. And for employees, you're charging them to essentially come to work; this most affects employees who make the least.

#MicroRounds (Day 971): “Take a stab at it” Streptococcus pyogenes (GAS) produces 2 types of hemolysins (streptolysins): oxygen stabile (SLS) & labile (SLO) which creates a strong zone of clearing when a plate is stabbed bc of the low oxygen environment. #ASMClinMicro #IDtwitter

#MicroRounds (Day 969) Putting the “color” in “versicolor”, this older agar shows extreme red-purple pigment production from Aspergillus versicolor. Color like this can take time to develop in isolates (if at all). Heads are loosely radiate and biseriate. #asmclinmicro #idtwitter
