So what's with all these age verification laws? Sadly it's not about "protecting kids". It's actually companies trying to profit off of you. Ever since Al came around advertisers don't know if the data and impressions are real anymore. So companies like Meta (Facebook, Instagram) are spending money to lobby lawmakers to make ID checks mandatory on the internet so advertisers know if it's a real person interested in buying whatever they're selling. This also helps build a digital identification profile for law enforcement to and hands it to them like cake for them to abuse. Remember free speech? Forget about it! if you criticize a foreign nation you'll probably get put on a government watchlist. This will make it so you can't fly anywhere in the USA or have basic civil liberties. And this isn' t a "muh capitalism or communism" issue. Its an issue with allowing foreign lobbying and PACs as a concept. Riddle me this. If this was about "protecting kids" why hasn't anyone who was on that island been arrested and charged yet?
