So proud to see the hard work of @rianaminocher come out in PNAS pnas.org/doi/10.1073/pnas.24… Nuanced analysis of 20 years of longitudinal data in a large rural community shows little evidence that non-nuclear family structures lead to reduced growth, education, or survival outcomes.

This Lexis plot depicting UK mortality across the 20th century is wild. I had no idea cohort effects (diagonal 'scars') were so strong. Events like the 1918 flu led to not only high annual mortality, but an increase in mortality across one's lifetime. HT: @salonium's newsletter.

Our new medicine laureate Svante Pääbo made a splash when his colleagues at @MPI_EVA_Leipzig threw him into a pond. Normally throwing a colleague into the pond happens when somebody receives a PhD, and they wanted to do it for Pääbo's #NobelPrize as well.

This paper is the culmination of years of rigorous ideas and thought with @DamienFarine and @MegCrofoot, and is my favorite piece I have worked on to date (and my 1st PhD chapter!). Let's make the field of collective behavior a more predictive science using classical theories!

A few days ago I saw this "bad stats" meme of a plot where somebody binned people into age categories, and then did a t-test to show that the older category was older than the younger category. I cant find it. Does anybody have a link to the tweet/paper?

This seems like as good a hill to die on as any other?
ALT Drake hotline bling meme format. Drake does not like "<-" as the assignment operator commonly used by R stats programmers. Instead, Drake prefers "a language that cannot run a program to completion if you indent a single line by 1 extra space" which a comparably petty complaint about Python. The author is just mad because there are genuine problems with RStats but using <- instead of = is really just not that big of a deal.

STRAND now supports multiple outcome network types (e.g., count and proportion data) common in the animal behaviour literature. We outline these updates in the preprint, and provide a step-by-step tutorial for applying generative network models to empirical data!
