Taught my #first #MUSIC lesson today! Never had music as a subject growing up - always loved listening to 🎶 but was petrified of teaching it. As a #PGCE student, I’m so grateful to my mentor for believing in me, when I didn’t believe in myself. THANK YOU! 🙏🏼 #kindness ❤️

☑️ CHECKING FOR UNDERSTANDING! Highly recommend the book ‘Explicit Direct Instruction (EDI)’ by Hollingsworth, and Ybarra. The ‘TAPPLE’ acronym they introduce is ingenious for memorising their steps for Checking for Understanding. Take a look at this visual breakdown...

14-year-old Aaryan Shukla from India, last month broke the world record for the Fastest time to mentally add 100 four-digit numbers - 30.9 sec Leaves you dazed & bewildered. Congratulations Aaryan! I’ve seen some videos before of kids using this technique where the hands are used, in some way, to aid calculation. I’m sure Aaryan has a special gift beyond the ordinary, but are there any sites which give a primer on the fundamentals of this technique? I’m not looking to break any world record. Maybe I can use it for some simple, daily business calculations! 🙂

Psychological safety is not about withholding criticism. It’s about enabling people to speak up without fear. The goal is not to lower our standards. It’s to replace knee-jerk reactions with open-minded consideration. All ideas are welcome. Not all views are equally valid.
