Oldie, but still true. Inactivity increases the risk of dozens of diseases, most of which have an age related component as well.

Learning how to learn is the base of your training.
With school, we often ask why do I need to learn X...I'm never going to use that. But we miss the point. School is like sports training: The general sets the stage for the specific. We've got to build capacity, before we exploit and refine our skills.

It's about the exercise, not the number, when it comes to health. hindawi.com/journals/dm/2015…
For the longevity people who are hyping Vo2max: If you care about longevity, don't focus on raising your Vo2max. Focus on improving your endurance performance. Choose a distance (5k,10k, half marathon, marathon). Get better at that. That will help you more.

The path of an athlete is not linear. It’s a journey of constant evolution, where the only opponent worth beating is the person you were yesterday. Champions understand, in the end, true success is not just about what you achieve, but who you become in the process.

Consistent work over a long time pays off...boring.
Marit BjĆørgen won 6 Olympic golds, 18 gold medals at World Cup Championships, and 110 World Cup victories. The defining feature of her training? An immense ramp up in volume from 522 hours / year at age 20, to 910 hours / year at age 35. This was a progression of ~30 hours per year, and increased her training time from 10 hours / week to 18 hours per week. The majority of her training hours were low intensity work (below the first lactate threshold). The 910h consisted of ~850h endurance training with 92% at low intensity.

If you do the exact same workouts, does having a personal trainer supervise you make any difference? The answer, according to a recent study from @BradSchoenfeld's group, is yes - even for experienced lifters who should know what they're doing. Detailsā¬‡ļø theglobeandmail.com/life/hea…
