Another legend has passed away today 😔 Gene Shalit, the iconic film and book critic known for his decades on NBC’s Today show, has passed away at 100. With his trademark mustache, bow ties, and sharp wit, Shalit became one of the most recognizable voices in entertainment. Many animation fans also remember him as the voice of Gene Scallop in SpongeBob SquarePants and the inspiration behind several beloved TV parodies. A century of life. A lifetime of influence. At first glance, it can be difficult to tell whether the Scooter character in the pre-show of the Muppets’ new Rock and Roller Coaster attraction at Disney’s Hollywood Studios is a live puppet or an animatronic. Walt Disney Imagineering created the figure using motion-capture technology applied directly to the actual Scooter puppet. Longtime performer David Rudman (who also plays Janice and Beaker) operated the puppet during capture sessions. The resulting data was used to program the animatronic so it recreates his exact puppeteering performance. The animatronic uses two separate robot hands...one controlling the head and body, the other specifically operating the arm rod (the control stick used by live puppeteers). This detail helps the figure move and look like a real Muppet being performed rather than a traditional Audio-Animatronic. Scooter is joined in the studio by two penguin audio engineers working the soundboard. These are repurposed Audio-Animatronics figures originally from the now-closed MuppetVision 3D* attraction.

When Maestro John Williams created the "Raiders March" for the film Raiders of the Lost Ark, Williams played just two distinct melodies on his piano for director Steven Spielberg in his home. Spielberg loved them both and suggested playing them together. Those two melodies became the main heroic theme and the musical bridge and John Williams spent several weeks working specifically on the Indiana Jones theme ("The Raiders March") in 1980. Meticulously piecing them together from two separate musical drafts, the music enveloped into a symphonic masterpiece. To put it in perspective, a standard 2-hour Hollywood feature, Williams' scoring process typically took about two to three months in total for Williams. The "Raiders March" by John Williams was officially originally recorded for Raiders of the Lost Ark by the London Symphony Orchestra, consisting of roughly 90 musicians and became one of the most iconic cinematic musical pieces ever recorded. #RaidersOfTheLostArk #RaidersOfTheLostArk45 #IndianaJones #JohnWilliams
