More than burnout and pay, the Great Resignation is driven by toxic cultures. What makes a culture toxic: disrespectful, noninclusive, unethical, cutthroat, and abusive behaviors. If leaders don't take toxicity at least as seriously as performance, Houston, we have a problem.

The epidermis is the most superficial layer of the skin. It is <1.0 mm thickness. Most of the pigment, melanin, is located in that layer. I've operated on the skin of 1,000s of patients of all different colors. Once I've cut through that thin layer, everyone looks the same.

Not the medical school threatening me with the GMC because I asked them why we didn't have a timetable, and apparently this contravenes domain 3 of achieving good medical practice ??? 👀

1/Traumatic. There I said it. Medical school & residency were traumatic for me. Embarrassed to say it bc I thought I was the only one. Worried to share it bc of retaliation. Confused to feel it bc I fought so hard to get there. Refused to accept it bc I thought it would go away.

This makes me so angry, because this would have been such a huge loss to so many if you had been forced off this path. You shouldn’t have had to endure this or have it normalized such that you felt it was your burden to carry or address.

2/Never imagined the profession I dreamt of, becoming a physician to serve & help people would be "traumatic". Yet constant hazing microaggressions racial bias gender discrimination = TRAUMA. Now that I know how do I heal? And how do I prevent this for others behind me...

We have no right to tell someone who has been abused how to feel about those who’ve harmed them. This includes when they are family members. This includes when they are spouses. This includes when the abuser appears to be an upstanding citizen that doesn’t seem like the type.

But it only makes me want it even more. Refuse to be a statistic lost in the system. Anxiety is building as we get closer to July 1 and I am still #unmatchedMD. Saddened my time doing what I love will be put on hold. But this is only temporary🙏🏾#HelpChrystinaMatch #scramble2021

#TipsForNewDocs Traits I respect in a doctor: 1. Humility. (Keeps asking opinion of all team members.) 2. Empathy. (No one cares how much you know, until they know how much you care.) 3. Integrity. (Does what they say they'll do.) 4. Diligence. (Keeps working problems.) #MedEd

If we could look into the hearts and minds of of those who treat us when we are sick I think we would be quite surprised. There are many who chose medicine to gain power over others and/or a means to acquire money/status; sadly, for some, treating patients is an inconvenience.
Every doctor I know who has made the acquisition of money and power their primary priorities in #medicine has failed in their duties both to their families and to their patients. Don't sell your soul. #Ethics #MedTwitter #values

Why must Black women in medicine continue to feel “less than,” under-appreciated, and unwanted? Why is it unreasonable to want to feel welcomed, loved, and supported by our programs in 2021? We can’t even celebrate our accomplishments due to the trauma. It’s time for change. ✊🏿🖤
