I made an AI clock for my bookshelves! It tells the time with a new poem EVERY MINUTE composed by ChatGPT. And it has... weird vibes?? tl;dr it's on Kickstarter as of right now I want to tell you the story because I didn't mean to do this...

Tip: if you've previously subscribed to @heyjasperai and have canceled your subscription, make sure to set things up so they can't charge your card. Why? I canceled, and their their billing system just tried to charge me anyway.

What happened to twitter's preview cards, and why are they so terrible all of a sudden? They look like photos now.

Great thought for day KURT VONNEGUT: I went out to buy an envelope ~ Oh, my wife says,  well, you're not a poor man, You know, why don't you go online and buy a hundred envelopes and put them in the closet? And so I pretend not to hear her. And go out to get an envelope because I'm going to have a hell of a good time in the process of buying one envelope. I meet a lot of people. And, see some great looking babes. And a fire engine goes by. And I give them the thumbs up. And I ask a woman what kind of dog that is. And, and I don't know. The moral of the story is, is we're here on Earth to fart around. And, of course, the computers will do us out of that. And, what the computer people don't realize, or they don't care, is we're dancing animals. You know, we love to move around. And, we're not supposed to dance at all anymore. ~ Kurt Vonnegut 100%

I'd love to see a research paper exploring the effects of low interest rates in the US, and growth in the UX job market. (Think: low interest rates → VC funds expand → mass-market apps → demand for UX'ers increases)

Loving the Slack redesign (really!) but wondering why the 0"💬Threads" tab doesn't display threads you've _contributed to_ but not yet received follow-up in. So odd.

It's been so long since I posted something on a phpBB forum that I forgot that yes, it will gladly lose your whole post when you hit "Submit". Modern web apps with autosave are the best!

Computing is a weird field. Bard summarizes books. chat GPT easily improves my code. I can accurately transcribe video with Whisper. But to get my @Blackmagic_News video devices to work with a Mac, I have to kickstart things by running a terminal script. capture.dropbox.com/ueOC7l6s…

The best part is: someone wrote that script, put it inside the installer — and then just didn't tell the users who *really* needed it.

Yes, modern interaction design is going swimmingly well. Top marks all around.

That’s a lot of Abigails! Is this level of synthetic activity the new normal?

The first two are somewhat akin to the style of Bill Finger & Jerry Robinson, whereas the last to are quite close to Frank Miller's pen. Prompting etc will improve over time, but still.

OpenAI’s latest image generation model, DALL-E 3, makes it SO easy to create comic books! Here are 4 panels for a fan-made Batman comic made in under 5 minutes. Prompts included in the ALT. Enjoy!🔥

We desperately need better stock photos for AI and tech
There are two steps the federal government should take to address #AI skills in its workforce. Read @ericjohnegan's piece to find out what they are! itif.org/publications/2023/0…

This technique is genuinely novel, and great fun (if you don't see it, zoom out).

"Bicycles for the mind" 🚴🏻‍♀️🚴🏽🚴🏿‍♂️

ALT This GIF cycles through four AI-generated illustrated scenes of bikers traveling through natural and human-inhabited environments. The negative space and background elements of each scene create an optical representation of the Notion logo, which is a 3d playing block with a serif N on the front. The images pay homage to a quote from Steve Jobs that "computers are bicycles for the mind."

Realized finally that much of "UX practice" deals with creating excellent storefronts (the digital equivalent of full-page ads and posters) and explaining the value proposition, then converting users, etc. That's important. And very different from building good interactions.
But: since you're here. How do you help less experienced designers "switch modes" when jumping between single-lane flows and more complicated admin / info processing / task management tools?

Of course UX etc is confused: one group focuses on storefronts, the other on building tools, sometimes very advanced ones. But they both use the same labels, talk the same terms, refer to the same trends, all while operating in different modes and realms.
