Liège: 2/10
Liège is second largest city in Wallonia. It has a rich and extensive history dating back from the 7th century and the played an important role in the Industrial Revolution thanks to its mining and metallurgical industries. Liège was, historically, of great intellectual and ecclesiastical importance as it became a pilgrimage site after a bishop was martyred in a small chapel there.
The city’s abundant history is why Liege was so disappointing and it might be one of the worst cities I’ve visited so far. It is dirty, ugly, sketchy, grey and, for a large city with so much history, there is hardly anything to do. The waterfront along the Meuse is truly hideous and ugly condos dominate the landscape. The nice buildings that remain are not very well kept which is a shame since you can tell that it was once an amazing place.
