As a former political staffer I was recently asked for career advice by a new political staffer. My response: “don’t be an asshole!”. Make all the tough calls, stand by your principles and be strong, but respect will carry you further than arrogance.

Congrats to @SkellyHamilton for being elected the 1st woman Speaker of the Ontario Legislature. What a moment! (And a nice white pantsuit) #RepresentationMatters #onpoli

I return to x simply to share that today, in January 2024, I have received a response from a provincial govt to an FOI that I filed in September 2019. I did not receive any documents, simply acknowledgement that they’re still working on it. #ToLaughOrCry

Most days I WFH. I live across from an elementary school & sometimes wonder how children could make so much noise at recess & lunch. But the eery silence of a school on lockdown is horrendous. Scary day in Toronto’s east end. Can’t wait for the sounds of playground fun tomorrow.

Sincere thanks to @DavidPiccini for so capably managing deeply complex matters that enabled the transition of the Blue Box program to begin transition to EPR in Ontario, during your tenure at MECP. Congrats on your new role as Labour Minister.
#BREAKING - Ford government cabinet shuffle announced. David Piccini replaces Monte Mcnaughton as minister of labor, Mcnaughton having resigned today. Andrea Khanjin fills Piccini old portfolio as environment Minister.

“Never underestimate the influence you have on others.” Last yr I saw a frmr colleague I hadn’t seen in years. They came up to me & said “it was a long time ago, you might not remember me”. To me, they are 1 of the most influential ppl in my career. You never know who’s watching

Never underestimate the influence you have on others. I still cook pasta the way I saw in a YouTube video. My friend still buys the brand of chocolate I once got her for Christmas. Some still listen to the music their ex once listened to. People may leave, but the memories stay.

Congrats @CELeadershipCA and @CircularOnline for an exciting and informative Circular Economy Summit. I was happy to moderate a panel discussion on the Cdn landscape of packaging policy and EPR, even so early in the morning … ☕️ ☕️ ☕️. #CCES2023

On my 30th birthday me and all my friends got dressed up, went to a sexy night club in Yorkville, drank our faces off and danced the night away. For my 40th I had a big dinner in a private room at a swanky restaurant. For my 50th last week I bought myself a new couch. #Adulting

Happy #WorldEnvironmentDay2023. At FHCP, we know that sustainability cannot be addressed in isolation. Collaborations are fundamental in our efforts to support our members, impact supply chains, and improve environmental outcomes. Thank you to the many who are helping to move the needle toward a circular economy.

Top civil servants at Queen’s Park were shuffled around today, including a new deputy minister of Education. Not always indicative that a (much rumoured) cabinet shuffle on the political side is coming. #onpoli

You’ve been warned.
Literally no one understands something more completely than a woman in a meeting who starts a question with “Just so I understand…”

Never have I felt so old as when I wrote notes with a pen and paper, in cursive, listening to an explanation of chatGPT.

As a kid I always heard the common refrain “don’t be a litterbug”. Today, Ontario’s Day of Action on Litter, is a good reminder to keep communities and environment clean. Thanks @DavidPiccini and @Andrea_Khanjin for leadership. #ActOnLitter
9 May 2023
It's Ontario's Provincial Day of Action on Litter, meant to encourage individuals, students, municipalities and businesses across the province to raise awareness about the impacts of litter and waste and take part in a litter cleanup. I had a Gen X crisis today when my home printer ran out of paper. I could hear my Millennial colleague laughing far away.

I have made the ultimate boy-mom mistake. Son randomly asked me how I would protect him in the event of a zombie apocalypse. In my response I apparently confused zombies, aliens and vampires. My kid may never speak to me again. #ParentingFail

Hi-light of the week: I attended a conference and was so happy to see a former colleague I hadn’t seen in 20 years. (A good reminder to never burn bridges where possible because no matter where you go outside of politics our worlds are never that far apart.) #TimeFlies
