Ah yes the “soul-crushing” work of “Generating puzzles and coding problems to train AI models” for 500k a year.
This headline is pretty accurate based on Meta folks I’ve been talking with Meta is successfully destroying their formerly standout engineering culture: forcefully assigning standout devs to this unit the layoffs It makes no rational sense. Hiring from Meta never been easier!

Yeah okay I think I'm a @PlanetScale metal super fan now. It's very freeing to know you can hit a cheeky 100k/iops out of nowhere and nothing melts down. Never going back to EBS.
Aaaaand just shaved off likely 7M DB calls using @PlanetScale Insights (via the MCP). I've never enjoyed Postgres as much as I enjoy it right now. Thank you @0x15f for the idea.

My token spend is way lower this month. Because I’m using composer. I’m not using it to save money, I just like that it’s fast

Found some code that was doing something 2,000 times when it could be optimized to happen 15 times instead. These are the moments we live for

2019 was technological masturbation. you cared more about state management libraries than the value the app they were being used for was providing. leaning into product and outcomes is infinitely more fulfilling than that bikeshedding bullshit.
i feel like the golden age of software engineering was ~2019 > pay was good > job market was good > being able to code meant something > pre LLMs so you still had to use your brain > pre pandemic so you appreciated when you could work from home but didn't expect it in 2026 engineering just doesn't seem to scratch the same itch for me anymore i wonder what will replace it
