Props to the grad student who ended their email requesting a library consultation for help with their research proposal with, "I don't know where to start and I'm really stressed out." We should all own this instead of trying to pretend we aren't freaking out over the hard things

It's me 💁🏼‍♀️
@msjennmo actually wrote a great blog post about this recently. Her experience with Mastodon and Discord are similar to my own. crdpala.org/2023/07/28/where…

Hey #AcademicChatter! Consider working with a #librarian or #medlibs to brainstorm author supplied keywords for your next manuscript. Our expertise in searching will help guarantee your research is returned in searches for #SystematicReviews and other #EvidenceSynthesis (1/2)

And therefore cited in those same publications. Not to mention better term selection makes for higher recall (and therefore more citations!). Ask me how I know #medlibs #canmedlibs #sysrevlibs (2/2)

Many #evidencesyntheses unreliable partly b/c their clinician-authors "resort to familiar but often inadequate, inappropriate, or obsolete methods and tools and, as a result, produce unreliable reviews." systematicreviewsjournal.bio… I agree. Solution = involve methodologists.

I wrote about how I search for the @Medlibs_Misc newsletter. Spoiler alert, I think searching is more art than exact science. How do you build a search? I'd love to hear your process!

What questions have you always wanted to ask your #medlibs / health sciences librarian? This is a good time to get it answered!
Hey #medlibs! We're interested in taking your questions on the pod! We want your questions about searching, about library life, about systematic reviews, about PubMed and MeSH, about cats...or dogs... Reply with your questions and RT to share!

This Is Just To Say by @msjennmo I have searched for librarians as coauthors on systematic reviews hoping for searches to adapt and cite for myself Forgive me I won't cite your review without a librarian coauthor so rigorous and so transparent #poetry #medlibs

I could care less about citation styles. Pick one, use it correctly. A citation management software will make your life easier, and you can change styles if you need to resubmit to another journal. I recommend @zotero, because if you ask me I'm going to direct you to them anyway.
Ya'll who started the rumor that librarians are citation style experts? Because I most certainly am not. I have to look it up just like anyone else. But I guess the difference is I know where to look...

👀
Qureshi& @PICO_Portal nail it #ChatGPT for #SystematicReviews "from a distance, the output mimics and passes as authentic; however, on closer inspection, it becomes apparent that it is not expertly formed material based on a depth of understanding of the systematic review process

Yes! This! I keep on hammering home the line, it takes 1000 hours of highly skilled individuals, 12 months, and significant funding to produce high quality #EvidenceSynthesis work!

Replying to @Ologies
@Ologies would you consider doing an episode on sport injury with @SScarneoMiller? Her research on emergency planning in high school sport is helping protect athletes across the country. She is also WV based so it'd give you a chance to visit the Wild and Wonderful. 🏞
