I wrote about how a $20,000 psychedelic medicine training that promised education & healing ended with warring lawsuits, a hospitalized trainee, & multiple allegations of sexual assaults. Unpaywalled link for accessibility in reply businessinsider.com/dark-sid…

There's a reason @HunterBiden's honesty about his addiction and recovery has resonated with so many people: accountability is rare but it’s also vital to recovery. Full post in reply

Drinking water installations are quintessentially “objects indispensable to survival,” a category with heightened protection in international law. Attacks directed against such installations are presumptively unlawful. This report strongly indicates precision strikes on two.
NEW: Our visual analysis suggests the United States hit two drinking-water facilities overnight in southern Iran with precision-guided munitions. Deliberately targeting civilian infrastructure could constitute a war crime. w/ @ckoettl @johnismay @ArtemisChats

Alcohol took me down hard and fast. Never let our cultural attitude about booze make you forget that it's the most destructive drug from a public health perspective. I was drinking 1/5 a day when I got sober. Barely survived a .4 BAC. Ask for help if you need it; it's out there.
Denise- I say this to everyone. The thing that was killing me more than anything else was not the crack it was the vodka. Alcohol is the worst drug of them all. I was drinking a handle a day while smoking crack. It’s the hardest to stop and the easiest to start. It’s the only drug (outside of benzos) you can die withdrawing from. And I know why you drink. You drink because at first it works. Don’t want to feel the way you feel. Well for people like us we know the answer. But you can stop- but rarely alone. Ask for help. Get honest with someone you trust and tell them you need help. We are never alone. I see you. I hear you. The one thing we all have in common is pain. We think we are alone but we are not. I have faith in you. I really do and I don’t even know you. It’s so much better on the other side.

This is a stark explainer on how out of touch publications can come off, largely due to the decisions of editors who aren't as directly involved in news gathering or the lives of their consumers.

@msmacb is one of my favorite journalists on any beat - she always calls a spade a spade and fwiw produced the most nuanced coverage of the Lykos MDMA-FDA rejection saga that I've read to this day. An essential follow (to say the least) out with another must-read article:
Just going to keep stoking the fires bc, yay chaos. @Slate has an interesting response to the essay that shall not be named from @msmacb with an interesting take: slate.com/technology/2026/05…
