While the world's focused on China's rise, Japan has been quietly boosting its own strategic importance in Asia — and becoming the Indo-Pacific's most trusted power. My talk with @RobertAlanWard of @iiss_org. ⬇️ Clip below and full video in replies.

Preventable nursing home hospitalizations cost Medicare $14,000–$30,000 per episode. Medicaid LTC spending spikes in every emergency when family support is cut off. The #EssentialCaregiversAct imposes zero new federal spending. @mtaylorstark @ConsumerVoices @Eric_M_Carlson
Strengthening the long term care workforce to meet future needs requires policymakers to take strategic, collaborative action through a multi-pronged approach. Learn more about our Caregivers for Tomorrow campaign: youtu.be/f_WRA__Ps94

Note to America: The World is a necessary component of a World Cup
Some World Cup players and team staff are being questioned or barred from entering the U.S., angering fans and heightening concerns about how immigration enforcement will be carried out during one of the world’s most international sporting events. wapo.st/4oiZiOc

I'm deeply troubled by reports that six nurses at Saint Mary of Nazareth Hospital in Chicago were terminated after participating in union organizing efforts. Every worker deserves the freedom to organize without fear of retaliation. Prime Healthcare must respect workers' rights and engage with employees in good faith. Nurses are essential to patient care, and I'll continue standing with them and fighting to protect workers' rights.
Since Prime Healthcare acquired Saint Mary of Nazareth, several nurses at the Chicago hospital spoke out about deteriorating conditions and potential unionizing. They were fired soon after. Prime says it prioritizes safety and denies retaliation. chicago.suntimes.com/health/…

Caregivers are often so busy caring for others that they forget to care for themselves. They skip doctor’s appointments. They lose sleep. They live with chronic stress, anxiety, and exhaustion. Many put their own health, careers, finances, and relationships on hold while caring for a loved one. The hidden cost of caregiving isn’t just measured in dollars. It’s measured in missed meals, sleepless nights, declining health, and emotional burnout. If we truly value family caregivers, we must do more than thank them. We must support them with resources, respite care, workplace flexibility, and policies that recognize the vital role they play. You cannot pour from an empty cup. To every caregiver reading this: Your health matters too. Take the walk. Schedule the appointment. Ask for help. Rest when you can. Caring for yourself is not selfish; it is necessary. ❤️ Because caregivers deserve care, too.

People are dying in ICE detention at the highest rates in decades, and the Trump Administration is doing everything possible to dodge accountability. This policy was adopted after a former Adelanto detainee died after leaving ICE custody. I have visited Adelanto and spoken with detainees about the inhumane conditions they face. This attempt to cover up neglect and abuse in ICE detention is indefensible.
Exclusive: In a memo sent to ICE employees, acting director David Venturella said the agency is eliminating its requirement to report deaths that occur within 30 days of people being released from its custody. wapo.st/4o94uE0

Nurses at Endeavor Health are speaking out for safe staffing and stronger workplace protections. I stand with these nurses and am deeply concerned by allegations that union supporters were fired amid organizing efforts. Endeavor Health must respect workers' rights and engage in good faith. Supporting nurses strengthens our entire health system.

The @CAPublicHealth websites Cal Health Find and the actions database are not showing deficiencies/citations documents against hospitals & SNFs. Haven't for at least 24 hours. Can CDPH director @ericapanMD_CDPH get these sites working again so consumers have the info they need?
