seeing this type of thing is heartbreaking, but it's a microcosm of a much more serious issue that I see every damn day as I drive: social order has broken down over the past several years to the point that fewer and fewer people are following the rules. and why is that? we have castrated law enforcement and told them enforcing "petty" laws like jaywalking and not using a blinker is racist and classist. "you can't issue a $100 citation to someone because then they'll go broke!" ok, then have you tried not breaking the law in order to avoid receiving a citation?
we need a totalitarian shift back towards enforcement of the rules so that all people can be protected. when driving down crowded city streets like this you shouldn't have to worry about a mother and her two kids illegally crossing the street. that type of behavior needs to be unthinkable to do. we can't continue as a functioning society if every other person is cutting off others in traffic, running stop signs, driving without insurance and registration, using a phone behind the wheel, being reckless and rude in public, etc.
bring in an iron fist to restore order, so that little girls little these here are protected.
"She should have known better than to cross there."
Ok. But did you see the driver sitting in his truck? While everyone surrounds it, trying to help the mom and her kids?
