The type 212A is the best conventional submarine. How would we even know? Westlant 2013. USS Norfolk (SSN) vs USS Roosevelt (Arleigh Burke DDG), MV Planet (research vessel) and U32. Aim is to sink/protect MV Mainz passing through the Florida Channel. Easy win for the SSN?

Shared sensor information they could even track the SSN in 3d from long ranges („bistatic motion analysis“), while staying silent itself. U32 could then move into position and use its long range high velocity torpedos.

Instead of being outmatched by the speed of the Los Angeles SSN, the Navy concluded, a bit reluctantly no doubt, that the type 212A SSK actually had the advantage in sub to sub combat, whether in offense or defense, by having better stealth and connectivity.

Is the Hanwah KSS-iii proposal for CPSP really able to deliver faster than tkms 212CD? Hanwah promises the first submarine by 2032, but only if a contract is signed in 2026. Tkms puts no such qualifiers on its promise to deliver 2 by 2034. If a winner is chosen this year /

Concluded, hastily, in 2022. since then there have been 3 renegotiations and only last week did they agree to assemble K2PL in Poland, something that was announced in 2022 already. The official timeline for CPSP still envisages contract signing, I believe, in 2028.

If you adjust Hanwahs somewhat presumptuous proposal accordingly, then they’re no longer faster. Tkms proposal on the other hand does not rely on „YOU BUY NOW, FAST“, to meet their timeline.

If Korea has such formidable submarines, why is no one interested? If you believe Wikipedia and Korean claims, Korea has probably the second best submarine fleet in the world, behind only the USA. Yet no one is buying. The tube launched „Korean Tomahawk“ has 1000km range.

This @theage article highlights our report 'Hedging our bets', which urges 🇦🇺 to explore the backup option of leasing or acquiring a submarine capability from 🇯🇵 in case major hurdles emerge in the AUKUS optimal pathway. 🔖: bit.ly/4djWM6i 🗞️: theage.com.au/politics/feder…

On paper Korea has the same submarine production capacity as Japan, and those submarines are significantly more armed, on paper. From Cheungriu to Hyunmoo 1 trough 4. Why is no one buying these highly advanced and completely self developed weapons? India, Greece, Poland…

Now Australia. The US is running out of „real“ tomahawks. But Korea has never once sold one of these to anyone. Very curious.

Update on the fire in KSS-II Hong Beomdo. So far it was only speculated if Lithium batteries were present on the submarine or involved in the accident, now confirmed. That people trying to enter the submarine got electric shocks and burns is astonishing chosun.com/english/national-…

Hanwah presented their submarine Lion battery in 2024, it used commercial battery chemistry that is famously flammable. Their solution was an integrated fire suppression system. The engineering concept has now been tested, and it failed.

Notable that RoKN Hong Beomdo was apparently the first KSS to have lithium batteries installed and that it was commissioned only in 2018, it had a service life of less than 8 years.

The Hanwah KSS-III proposal to Canada for CPSP does not include VLS. Hard to believe with how much effort Team One Korea put in to promoting the VLS, but listen to the Korean TV submarine expert explain the logic: Canada neither wants or needs it, but can use the space for /

The KSS-III carries the Hyunmoo 4-4 in it's VLS cells, which is a ballistic missile. AFAIK, it has no connection to BrahMos. Hard to see what connection it could have, since BrahMos is a cruise missile. Maybe you're confusing Hyunmoo 4-4 with Hyunmoo 3?

I just want to capture this moment in time, to confirm that Canada definitely wants VLS, and even expects KSS-iii to have a VLS, but somehow people will later say online they never wanted a VLS and that’s why Korea didn’t export it. (Korea can’t export it. It’s Russian)

Watch the whole thing here, from 7min onwards. The US denied Korea Tomahawks, and especially sub launched ones, for the last 20 years. The expert seems quite confident that Canada will use Tomahawk, if at all, rather than any Korean missile KSS currently has.

@CDNPolicyHawk Here is Koreas TV submarine expert explaining the Canadian KSS-III pitch, so even slow Korean trolls get the story straight: Canada does not want or need VLS. But having that *space* for future expansions to Tomahawk is their proposal youtu.be/NAynlsJT2OQ?t=459

Korean defense experts still insist both of these are 500mm RHA equivalent composite cheek armor. It’s your lying eyes that deceive you, not Hyundai Rotem who wants to sell K2 tanks.

That’s not how you measure it lmao Cluless like wolski. Is this wolski’s secret account?

Would Hanwah really just brazenly lie about KSS-III? the internet is littered with the remains of previous campaigns of „extreme optimism“ like the 2012 sale of 3 boats to Indonesia. From the KSS-1 wiki: Apparently there are big upgrades coming, AIP, SLCM, flank arrays, etc

It’s been 14 years since then, and none of it ever happened. RoKN abandoned any investments and upgrades of KSS-I, in favor of KSS-II. At this point you can say the VLS bait and switch promise is a practiced routine for Hanwah
