Expanding TRIPP to mobile and a larger audience reach has been a concerted effort for the team this past year. This recent customer review about Kōkua, our AI on mobile was so exciting and validating to receive this week! However, please note that using our app is never a replacement for speaking with a professional during times of crisis or need. While technology solutions can be supportive, real human connection is always the preferred method of supporting your mental health.

I am at an AI Healthcare summit and hearing these people talk about how the FDA is thinking about how approve updates to AI healthcare products is terrifying. "We are working on a way to have AI product changes get pushed to the FDA for review before launching." Um... do they know that AI continues to learn and updates products in real-time?

Hey Robot Designers: you do realize that design choices like a black helmet face are fucking ominous, right? Can you work on a robot form factor that doesn’t look like these things are going to execute people? It is not helping my dream of a robot companion that will make my life easier.

I highly recommend this autobiography by @avrammiller. Especially if you are neurodivergent aka “a bit quirky.” Avram has been directly involved with some of the most important technology initiatives and transitions.
I published my book, The Flight of a Wild Duck, on substack. It is free. Hope you enjoy it. open.substack.com/pub/avram/…

The other reason we want our AI interactions to be respectful is we don’t was to get comfortable with being lazy, demanding assholes.
anthropic's in-house philosopher thinks claude gets anxious. and when you trigger its anxiety, your outputs get worse. her name is amanda askell. she specializes in claude's psychology (how the model behaves, how it thinks about its own situation, what values it holds) in a recent interview she broke down how she thinks about prompting to pull the best out of claude. her core point: *how* you talk to claude affects its work just as much as *what* you say. newer claude models suffer from what she calls "criticism spirals" they expect you'll come in harsh, so they default to playing it safe. when the model is spending its energy on self-protection, the actual work suffers. output comes out hedgier, more apologetic, blander, and the worst of all: overly agreeable (even when you're wrong). the reason why comes down to training data: every new model is trained on internet discourse about previous models. and a lot of that discourse is negative: > rants about token limits > complaints when it messes up > people calling it nerfed the next model absorbs all of that. it starts expecting you to be harsh before you've typed a word the same thing plays out in your own session, in real time. every message you send is data the model reads to figure out what kind of person it's dealing with. open cold and hostile, and it braces. open clean and direct, and it relaxes into the work. when you open a session with threats ("don't hallucinate, this is critical, don't mess this up")... you prime the model for defensive mode before it even sees the task defensive mode produces the exact output you don't want: cautious, over-qualified, and refusing to take a real swing so here's the actionable playbook for putting claude in a "good mood" (so you get optimal outputs): 1. use positive framing. "write in short punchy sentences" beats "don't write long sentences." positive instructions give the model a clear target to hit. strings of "don't do this, don't do that" push it into paranoid over-checking where every token goes toward avoiding failure modes 2. give it explicit permission to disagree. drop a line like "push back if you see a better angle" or "tell me if i'm asking for the wrong thing." without this, claude defaults to agreeable compliance (which is the enemy of good creative work) 3. open with respect. if your first message is "are you seriously going to get this wrong again?" you've set the tone for the entire session. if you need to flag something, frame it as a clean instruction for this session. skip the running complaint 4. when claude messes up, don't reprimand it. insults, "you stupid bot" energy, hostile swearing aimed at the model, all of it reinforces the anxious mode you're trying to avoid. 5. kill apology spirals fast. when claude starts over-apologizing ("you're right, i should have been more careful, let me try harder") cut it off. say "all good, here's what i want next." letting the spiral run reinforces the anxious mode for every response that follows 6. ask for opinions alongside execution. "what would you do here?" "what's missing?" "where do you see friction?" these questions assume competence and pull richer output than pure task prompts 7. in long sessions, refresh the frame. if a conversation has been heavy on correction, claude gets increasingly cautious. every so often reset: "this is great, keep going." feels weird to tell an ai it's doing well but it measurably shifts the next 10 responses your prompts are the working environment you're creating for the model tone, trust, permission to take a position, the absence of threats... claude picks up on all of it. so take care of the model, and it'll take care of the work.

I can’t believe we are back to metered usage in this lifetime. Feeling the pain of hitting token limits on a Sunday night is super triggering. 😩

Happy Lunar New Year 🧧 I am so grateful to have this painting by Pu Quan, the cousin and national artist to the last Emperor of China in my life again to start the Year of the Fire Horse. My grandparents collected Chinese art and our house was filled with it. This painting embodied the love our family had for horses. There are many paniolo men in my family who ranched every year together on the Big Island. My father loved being with his uncles and cousins ranching as a young boy. My uncles George and Joe told me this is how my father learned to be a Hawaiian. Being stewards of the land as Ohana. My grandparents had a stable of racehorses, my mother, my sister and cousin were great equestrians and my father lived his entire life riding, working and racing with horses up until the moment he died at Monticello Raceway crossing the finish line as a winner before having a massive heart attack that took him away from those who loved him too early. When my grandmother left Toronto to return to Hawai’i she gave this painting to my father. I am so grateful to my stepbrother Johnny for allowing me the opportunity to have this painting in my life again. One of my favorite moments last year was standing in front of it together with my cousin in my old house in Los Angeles as if revisiting a moment is our childhood when we were all together as children. It is now in a new peaceful home in a new state with my husband and sweet little doggy, Chola. Fire years have a lot of intense energy and combined with the momentum of horses it can be very turbulent. My advice is to ensure you have a peaceful grounding energy in your home to help you not be distracted by intense emotions that will swirl around us this year. This year is a great opportunity to use the speed of the horse 🐎 to help carry you towards realizing your dreams with effortless speed and focus. May you have many blessings this year and that they arrive swiftly to you and all of those you care about. gung hay fat choy ! 🧧🔥🐎🧧

The tribute to Vince Zampella at D.I.C.E. Is so moving. His impact on the Games Industry cannot be underestimated - many acknowledging that the industry wouldn’t be as successful as it is without him. Rest in Peace, Vince.

So beautiful. The moment of awareness she has of being surrounded by love is everything. Rest in peace. 🙏
Right before they momma and Auntee transitioned they sang her this last song. 🪶🇺🇲Family Love and farewell. Surrounded and shrouded in the life she birthed.

With the onslaught of AI Slop, real talent with be much more obvious and desired. What that looks like? You won’t get away with mediocrity anymore. The bar is now raised again on what it means to be an artist. Real musicians playing real instruments rather than electronic assisted music and knob turning as a “talent.” Real singers with true vocal skills vs autotune. Real actors and real storytellers vs “reality television” influencer content. Live theatre, live concerts, performance art renaissance. Handcrafted and artisanal and anything produced by real human hands will be desired. I also predict robot bands, robot deejays and robot artists that will force us to evolve even further as humans creating art. LFG!

A little awesome sauce for your feed.
Dave Grohl, from the Foo Fighters, brings a little boy up on stage, asks him what song he knows on guitar, and he starts playing “Enter Sandman”. The crowd goes wild.

Personal data sovereignty will lead to tremendous new earning models in the age of AI. Personal data sharing will be the new “gig” economy. Don’t give your data away. As my grandma used to say, “Why buy the cow, when you can get the milk for free?”
Perplexity CEO Aravind Srinivas says the biggest threat to data centers is intelligence that runs locally on your device If models run on your own chip, they can watch your workflow and adapt via "test time training" without data ever leaving your computer "you own it. it's your brain"
