Tickets for my new tour “Emergence” are now on sale - apparently this is different from “presale” which was yesterday. I don’t know what the difference is other than one less click on the web site. As far as I’m concerned it’s marketing bullshit. Anyway - here are the tickets for most of the world - more US and Canada dates TBC. briancoxlive.co.uk

Wow…
To give you an idea of just how large Saturn’s “hexagon” storm is.

Not to worry everyone, it’s just a piece of Fantasia floating by. Would someone like to give the Childlike Empress a new name?

Everyone should listen to @carolynporco … this alien spaceship stuff is completely out of hand - it’s OVERWHELMINGLY likely to be a lump of ice and rock. We went through similar nonsense with the ‘LHC might create a black hole and destroy the world’ fiasco. There is value in thinking about highly unlikely possibilities of course - and it can be fun to publish a paper or two on them - but some people who are not scientifically / statistically literate really worry about these things when they read about them out of context in the press or on social media.

🚨: Biggest black hole ever seen - weighs as much as 36 billion of our Suns, distorts the light of a more distant blue galaxy into a ring around its own, ancient orange galaxy. Beautifully pushing the edge of what we understand.

For those asking about the James Webb photo of Saturn… the planet looks dark because methane in its atmosphere absorbs infrared light. But the icy rings don’t, so they shine bright and dramatic against the shadowed globe. Yes, this is real.
The beautiful planet Saturn taken by the James Webb Space Telescope!

And it’s important we can tell the difference so that if we do encounter our alien neighbors in action out there, we can know for sure it’s NOT a comet or something of the like. It’s a great thing that we are able to note this as a comet. We’ve come a long way. This is exciting.

For the last time today, the thing that’s whizzing through our solar system at the moment is a comet from another solar system - the third we have detected in the last 8 years. We are detecting them now because we have better telescopes. It’s really cool, because it will allow us to study ancient material from systems beyond our own. Here is a good summary: esa.int/Space_Safety/Planeta…
