one pro tip about traveling with your baby is something called “miles pooling” which United offers. You can make a United account for your kid and then for any airfare you purchase for them, you can steal their miles.
She have united 1k status yet?

“How do you keep your phone/ID/boarding pass handy?” Great question!! The phone case strap with the card holder also doubles as a teething toy

“Direct or connecting?” Very nuanced answer to this. Generally, probably go for direct flight. However, if you have airline status and just know your experience is likely to be better, you’ll earn miles, etc, a connection isn’t that bad. Gives the baby a break to move around, see things, diaper change, just take a break from the plane. I’ve done and they have their trade offs.

“It is certainly hard to believe that a little company that started in a warehouse in El Segundo is now going public with the largest IPO ever.” Only in America. Congratulations to @elonmusk @SpaceX. This is the American Dream 🇺🇸💪🚀

Anyone who has watched fireworks in DC knows that because of the humidity after 2-4 minutes the fireworks become clouded by smoke. The smartest way to have a watchable fireworks display is by spreading out launch locations. Just like the reflecting pool, this will be more enjoyable by hundreds of thousands of people than the hundred in their boats.
Freedom 250's supersized July 4 show in D.C. is expected to shut out boaters, as organizers plan eight barges on the water to launch fireworks. "Having the river closed for July 4 is the boat-world equivalent of Tysons being closed on Black Friday," one operator says. axios.com/local/washington-d… w/ @AnnaSpiegs

On the signature matching thing in CA. I worked on a computer vision project for a large bank to help them identify mismatched signatures on fraudulent checks. The project’s biggest takeaway was that it’s REALLY hard to determine whether a signature is a match or not even with dozens or hundreds of sample “valid” signatures. The state of California has ONE valid signature to match from. And they aren’t using any sort of systematic test to do the comparison. Just a human’s subjective judgement.

also, the state of CA had my maiden name as a signature on file. I changed my name and updated my ID, but when I went to provide my signature at the DMV, i accidentally signed my maiden name. So for years my maiden name’s signature was printed on my ID but I had my married name on my voter registration. I tried to ask the person at the polling place what I should sign so that the signatures would match and they didn’t even KNOW what the signatures on file looked like. My ballot has never been rejected despite providing different signatures every time. With totally different names signed.
