Yesterday Pamela from our Parent Advisory Council shared her story at the Medicaid Educational Briefing hosted by the KBR Charitable Trust. We are thankful for our PAC members and how they show up and advocate for children and families in our state who need our attention today.
NC Child was in Marshall last week for the Madison County State of the Child.
Special thanks to the County Health Department and County Partnership for Children & Families for hosting the conversation with us.
We heard about issues like affordability (healthcare, everyday living expenses, utilities), food insecurity, lack of transportation, and the lack of quality affordable child care ("subsidy rates are an issue").
"Families feel discouraged and stressed".
We heard about the lack of out of school activities. "This gets worse as the kid gets older especially if they don't play team sports." The need for "safe recreational spaces & activities" and resources to provide caregivers with affordable childcare.
