"Each day felt like it could be our last, and it came with terrible memories that left unbearable wounds. For three months, we endured unimaginable horrors that will stay with us forever. Despite everything that we went through, we never lost hope #Kwibuka31

"Mwiza added that France is the second country with the several memorial sites dedicated to the Genocide against the Tutsi, which testifies to how deeply the two countries are entangled in the tragic history and "former nefarious alliances." Thus, she said, any act of memorialization, however powerful, must be accompanied by political measures against the current manifestations of anti-Tutsi ideology, as scholarship demonstrates that this ideology possesses within it the capacity for perpetual reconfigurations, following new superior state interests". newtimes.co.rw/article/36243…

“Confronting historical responsibilities requires real courage, because it generates fierce opposition by those with a case to answer. You need a strong sense of humanity to see it through.” President #Kagame commended Emmanuel Macron for his courage in acknowledging France’s historical responsibilities related to the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi.
“This monument is the culmination of a journey. It now inscribes the Genocide against the Tutsi in Rwanda at the heart of our capital and our history.” — French President Emmanuel Macron

"The memorial before us is powerful, because it sets the truth in stone and protects it from the heartlessness of time by instructing the living. It is not a validation, for none is needed. Instead, it stands as a mark of respect for the dignity of Rwandans and for our history.

My new blog open.substack.com/pub/consol… One thing I have learned throughout these years is that when you refuse to give up, and when you collectively hold each other’s hands through the journey, you create a path toward healing. #kwibuka32 #hope #courage #faith

Every road, every tree, every schoolyard and bus stop once witnessed either killing, escape, hiding, or survival. A rock someone hid behind. A house that sheltered a neighbour. A roadblock that decided who lived & who died. Our memorials hold part of that story #kwibuka32 #memory

“I too must speak, write, and remember if only one last time. With the hope of another day. The hope of liberation, and that the lives of all my loved ones may be forever inscribed, so that they survive oblivion, the force of inertia, and the pact of indifference. One last time, relive the hell of the Tutsis. One last time, remember. I remember. IBUKA!” Annick Kayitesi Josan (𝑁𝑜𝑢𝑠 𝑒𝑥𝑖𝑠𝑡𝑜𝑛𝑠 𝑒𝑛𝑐𝑜𝑟𝑒) #Literature #Storytelling #WritingCommunity #DigitalMemory
