Today marks 10 years to the day since @nigreenways went from daft idea in my head to daft ideas on the internet, which over time chimed with a lovely audience. Simpler times then - tracing railway lines on Google Maps, blogging, tweeting.. nigreenways.com/ni-greenways…

And the best of them have been fellow travellers along campaigning paths, far far too many to mention, every one an inspiration to me, doing excellent work in the face of deceptively supportive political and governmental greenwash masking absolute granite resistance to change..

Close watchers may have noticed a lack of activity over the last 5 months. Life has a habit of taking over. It might not be 10-and-done, but things are on hold for the foreseeable future. Give @Streets4AllNI @NBCycleCampaign @CyclingUK_NI @SustransNI @cyculcc all your support. J

North Belfast has waited so long for so little. It shouldn't be this hard. It's also shameful that Rebekah has experienced this level of harassment. I've also been engaging with this group and have had nothing of the sort, so there is clearly a sexist angle here. What a disgrace.

One tiny section of proposed cycle infrastructure leading to harassment and intimidation of people defending the project. @deptinfra needs to step up its PR and engagement to ensure its ambitious 200km network across Belfast is not dead before it is built: x.com/rebekahmccabe_/status/…

The continuously atrocious management of active travel by @deptinfra leads me to thinking that it’s almost policy to frustrate even the most basic of positive developments. With the world’s climate on fire the Department is mishandling small changes and fostering negativity.

Desperate thread. Solidarity with Rebekah and others trying to make their local area a wee bit more liveable, and for that facing intimidation to push them off the public square. Shame on @deptinfra, experts in ensuring the simplest of active travel projects wither on the vine.

Very worrying to see last week that a bike in the *secure* storage @GliderBelfast stop at Hollywood Arches has had wheel stolen / been damaged. @Translink_NI -have you been able to identify culprit from the cameras & digital door lock mech? @nigreenways @combergreenway

Consultation closes tomorrow folks. It’s really important to engage with consultations like this to enable proper, safe and usable active travel routes to be developed
Reminder- One day left to share your views on proposed active travel routes between Sydenham and Holywood. Our consultation closes tomorrow (1 April 2022) at 5pm. More info: infrastructure-ni.gov.uk/con…

"The eventual priority of routes will be shaped by a variety of factors, including costs and available resources.... " yeh they're just going to throw some paint down and call it a day.

Red route best. Green route ok. Blue route hideous. Let’s hope they listen, confidence is low!

Responded with a preference for the red route. What are the odds of it not happening at all when the public's preference doesn't match the Eastern Division's?

I was truthful and answered that I would very rarely use the route, but it is extremely important for commuting and leisure links between Belfast and North Down and I have an ambition to cycle to work from Bangor to Belfast at least once!
