When your pipelines generate HTML reports on #biowulf, you don't have to copy all the results back to your desktop to catch a glimpse. Use hpcdrive to locally mount your hpc storage and browse directly to it. hpc.nih.gov/docs/hpcdrive.ht…#TipTuesday
Paul Gonzalez from our lab @genome_gov@IRPatNIH presenting his work on the evolution of non-coding elements associated with homeobox genes at #SICB2023 – an extremely computationally intensive study that wouldn't have been possible without being #PoweredByBiowulf! @NIH_HPC
Be careful about loading modules and activating conda environments in your bashrc. It's nice to have all your tools at your fingertips when you log in, but they don't always integrate well with each other. Load only what you need when you need it. #TipTuesday
If you have a lot of short (<5min) jobs, bundle them up to get a bulk discount on your scheduling time. swarm's --bundle option will group them into bundles & run each bundled command in succession within a single subjob.
See hpc.nih.gov/apps/swarm.html#…#TipTuesday#hpctips
Do you have short ( < 4 hr) jobs that you want to start quickly on #Biowulf? Consider submitting to the 'quick' partition to get priority scheduling. #TipTuesday
There are now 5000 papers #PoweredByBiowulf! 🥳 We're proud to support the @IRPatNIH with this essential resource and looking forward to enabling many more papers to come. ☺️

Your #biowulf job is coming up on its walltime limit, but it's not done yet 😬 What do you do? Use newwall to extend your walltime*! #TipTuesday

The user dashboard is your #Biowulf control room. See and request changes to your groups and disk quotas. Monitor your jobs and resource utilization. hpc.nih.gov/dashboard#TipTuesday
Using network storage for temp files is like making a new trip to the store for each ingredient in your sandwich. Reduce traffic 🚦. Use local scratch instead. hpc.nih.gov/docs/userguide.h…#TipTuesday
Congratulations to @genome_gov’s @JulieSegre, who has been elected to @theNASciencesfor for her work in microbial genomics and human health! Her research has been crucial in tracking several skin diseases. Read more about her amazing research career: go.usa.gov/xtnsf
Congratz to @aphillippy and his #NIH@genome_gov team, as well as their collaborators in the #T2T consortium, on this huge achievement! And, of course, the team at @nih_hpc, who run the Biowulf #supercomputer that leant its massive computational power to this effort!
Scientists in the Telomere-to-Telomere (#T2T) consortium have published the first complete, gapless human genome sequence. This can lead to a better understanding of our genomic variations and provide insight for missing heritability and human disease. genome.gov/T2T
Thanks Andy! And mark this down as another @nih_hpc success story. All the assemblies ran there and the whole consortium relied on our Globus share, all during a pandemic. Hats off to them!
