A use-after-free vulnerability in the Linux kernel's nftables subsystem has been disclosed, enabling unprivileged local attackers to escalate privileges to root on widely deployed distributions including Debian Bookworm, Debian Trixie, Ubuntu 22.04 LTS, and Ubuntu 24.04 LTS.
Tracked as CVE-2026-23111, the flaw was discovered in early 2025 and patched upstream on February 5, 2026, via a kernel commit.
The bug originates in the nft_map_catchall_activate() function within the nftables subsystem — a packet filtering framework built on top of Linux's Netfilter hooks.

‼️🚨 A new npm supply-chain attack compromised 57 packages across over 286 malicious versions in under 2 hours. The attackers used self-replicating malware, a new version of the Miasma worm, which also used evasion techniques to stay under the radar.
The payload targets CI/CD and developer credentials, including GitHub Actions secrets, cloud credentials, Vault tokens, SSH keys, npm and GitHub tokens, and password-manager stores. This variant also injects AI coding assistant config files at `.claude`, `.cursor`, `.gemini`, and `.vscode` paths, a separate persistence and repo-poisoning angle.

New CVEs are being discovered daily this week. I’ve had to fix CVEs across various projects and these aren’t low-impact vulnerabilities. They range from 7 to 9 on the CVSS scale with the lowest I’ve encountered this week being a 7.

Trust me, simply relying on GitHub Dependabot won’t fix these issues on time.
Recently we’ve had to implement a guardrail at @pipeopshq. This prevents certain projects from being deployed if their total known vulnerability score exceeds a certain threshold.

Our main goal is to encourage and enforce a security-first deployment. At the CI level, we scan and detect vulnerabilities, leaked credentials and secrets. This allows users to fix issues early, further limiting the attack surface even before deployment to production.
