Former Australian of the Year and melanoma researcher, Professor Richard Scolyer, has died at the age of 59 following a long public battle with brain cancer.
Scolyer, alongside Professor Georgina Long, was jointly awarded Australian of the Year in 2024 after saving thousands of lives through groundbreaking skin cancer research.
In an open letter Scolyer intended to be published when he died, he wrote he was "extremely proud" of his impact, describing his life as one filled with "happiness, optimism, opportunity, and passion".
