In @CellCellPress, I share a major conceptual challenge for biology in the next decade, inspired by Crick’s Central Dogma: understanding information flow in the cell, the smallest indivisible unit of life bit.ly/4hQMmva
AlphaFold allows scientists to start “asking different questions and potentially opening up whole new areas of research”🧠
Prof Rivka Isaacson @rli22 on how the recent Nobel Prize winner changed her field and collaboration between scientists and AI in @FTft.com/content/9e8d9087-a71f…
Just a day after receiving his Nobel Prize, #AlphaFold co-founder Dr John Jumper spoke to King’s students about his groundbreaking work using AI to predict protein structure - and how the prize announcement was kept under wraps. ⬇️

Interested in piRNAs and transposon DNA methylation? Our new collaborative work revels a key mechanism underpinning the precision of piRNA-guided LINE1 methylation.
Congratulation to all the authors!

This is a monumental paper from Arvind. Not only did work out in his PhD how the classic model for allostery haemoglobin evolved. Now he designed allosteric proteins entirely from scratch. It think that's an awesome arc. nature.com/articles/s41586-0…

The BBS Elspeth Garman Prize for Public Engagement britishbiophysics.org/elspet… will be presented to Prof. Rivka Isaacson @rli22 for her sustained excellence in biophysics public engagement over 25 years in the UK and far beyond. Rivka will present a lecture at a future BBS Meeting.
Magnetic Isolation and Concentration (MagIC)-cryo-EM is a new method to enable direct structural analysis of targets captured on nanomagnetic beads, which requires only 0.0005 mg/mL of targets in 100 µL crude solution to make 10 cryo-EM grids. I will explain the magic behind it!
🚨Delighted to announce that the London NMR Forum is returning! The new series begins 5-6pm Thursday 25 Jan @TheCrick, with @DFlemmingHansen discussing "NMR and AI".
Short talks are invited from any field of magnetic resonance. Free registration: londonnmr.wordpress.com#nmrchat
Do you know our next PhD students?
We have two openings starting this summer, one for engineering of biomolecular condensates, and one for de novo design of protein binders (and their applications).
Link and details ⬇️
We are hiring!
Do you fancy investigating the role of protein disorder in transcriptional regulation? Come see how the ideas we developed translate into the mammalian cell!
You can contribute to mature projects and try out new areas.
