A new way to fight disease. Get alerted about cases and exposures near you so you can *avoid* infection. Built for individuals, schools, and communities.
Po: The key is, we are making a viral app to fight a virus spreading on the same network that the virus spreads on.
@lexfridman: So you’re trying to out-virus the virus?
@PoShenLoh: That’s right. That's exactly right.
Thanks for sharing this new approach to contact tracing! Delta variant's faster spread is beating old containment methods. This new approach uses game theory and network theory to align incentives: it's the first app that helps healthy people avoid getting sick themselves.
In conversation with @PoShenLoh, Prof at @CarnegieMellon, coach of USA Intl Math Olympiad Team & founder of @NOVIDApp -- a unique game-theoretic approach to stop #coronavirus spread.

We're rounding off #AAPIHM by honoring @PoShenLoh. Recently, he founded @NOVIDApp, an app to fight disease. Loh views himself as a fusion of Asian and American cultures. To AAPI students, he says, "You can flourish in two different cultures." Read more: bit.ly/2SHs14D

This was the most profound moment of the interview. The @NOVIDApp use of the network the virus uses to travel through a community to deny a virus access prior to the event as opposed to after it had passed. Great interview & great work @PoShenLoh & @NOVIDApp Team!

"The standard paradigm is: What already happened? Quick! Damage control! Ours is to predict the future."

Lex is remarkable. He's conversational across wide range of intellectual/philosophical topics. Thanks for highlighting new game-theoretic approach to pandemics that we discovered: aligning incentives so even selfish individualistic behavior contributes societal disease control.

"The feature will launch in the next two weeks and run until July 4," the White House said. People who want to use the program would need to select a vaccination site near them and then redeem the companies' offer of a free ride.

We are seeking epidemiologists and public health experts interested in research collaborations on new ways of using tech to better handle future pandemics. #COVID19 is not over. Let’s work together. Email hello [at] novid.org & share!
The new NOVID app lets you know when people in your extended interaction network self-report COVID-19 symptoms or test positive for the virus buff.ly/2QiZOjF
Thanks to @IEEESpectrum@InstituteIEEE for talking to us, and highlighting the difference between finding out about disease before exposure, instead of only finding out after!

“Unfortunately, it’s very hard to have people do things against their will. That’s the foundation of the script of every Hollywood zombie movie. But what do you actually want during a pandemic? You want to protect yourself...and that's NOVID."
Covid-19 contact tracing apps are generally useless. But @NOVIDApp might actually work: You get notified when Covid-19 is "approaching" in your physical network - so that you can avoid potential spreaders and avoid exposure. Brilliantly simple.

Thank you @StatModeling for focusing attention on our new way of fighting pandemics! It started from a simple idea: don't tell people after they've been exposed to a disease. Instead let them see the disease coming from afar so that they can defend self.
