Thanks so much to @MapScaping for hosting me on the podcast to discuss big data in web-based geospatial applications. Really honored to be included, and thanks for making me sound so good! 😄 mapscaping.com/podcast/big-d…
h3-js v4.1.0 is now up on npm 🎉 npmjs.com/package/h3-js
This version fixes the bundle for React Native and Web Workers, and includes the new functions cellToChildPos and childPosToCell - I'll put up a new notebook soon to demo some of the new use cases they support.
As promised, here's the notebook (thanks @observablehq!). The new functions are a little esoteric, but they open up some very efficient data processing approaches - let me know what you do with them! observablehq.com/@nrabinowit…
Over the weekend, we published the first v4 release candidate for h3-js 🎉. We've been working on v4 of the core H3 library for some time, and we're excited to get it out to users. github.com/uber/h3-js/releas…
For h3-js users, npm/yarn should protect you from breaking changes until you're ready to upgrade. But if you use an *unpinned* version of h3-js, e.g. in @observablehq notebooks, you'll want to pin the import to 3.7.2 to avoid errors.
Just to reiterate the release notes: H3 v4 does not change the cell indexes themselves. It's 100% compatible with existing data, using the same hexagons you know and love ⬣❤️⬣❤️⬣
Finally, the only daily, global, free map of GPS interference has officially launched: gpsjam.org/ Watch jamming around conflict zones develop over time. Wonder who's jamming GPS all around Moscow. Like all the best maps, it raises more questions than it answers!
OSM features have landed in @unfoldedinc as Hex Tiles: you can now bring in being on a road or building into your analytics. Or, my favorite, explore the global railroad network: studio.unfolded.ai/home/data…@JWasilGeo@nrabinowitz
Don't miss @NickRabinowitz and @heshan_cheri speaking tomorrow at the @odsc East Conference! They'll share how to step up your geospatial data analysis with visualization like the one below. Register here: odsc.com/boston/speakers/
Launch day for Hex Tiles! I've been working with @IsaacBrodsky on this for the last year - it's a new tiling system for large datasets based on the #H3 hexagon grid. We think it's pretty neat - give it a spin here: studio.unfolded.ai/home/cata…
We have an exciting announcement! Introducing Hex Tiles, a next-generation tiling system, where you can unify diverse spatial datasets, conduct analytics, and visualize big data. Done in minutes, within your browser on the Unfolded Platform. Learn more: 4sq.com/3pfjNOD
