Today marks an exciting milestone in advancing innovation in Rwanda's education as the #MastercardFoundationEdTechFellowship, implemented by the Rwanda ICT Chamber in partnership with the @MastercardFdn, officially kicks off cohort 1. The Fellowship aims to strengthen Rwanda’s EdTech ecosystem by supporting innovative, locally driven solutions that expand access to quality education, particularly for historically underserved communities. By empowering high-potential EdTech startups, the program seeks to accelerate the development and adoption of digital learning solutions that improve educational outcomes across the country. Throughout a six-month acceleration, the selected #EdTechcompanies will receive mentorship, strategic guidance, business coaching, access to science of learning courses, and equity-free grants of up to USD 50,000 to help scale their impact sustainably. Each startup is expected to reach at least 5,000 learners, contributing to a projected collective impact of more than 40,000 learners in every cohort. Minister of State for Education @ClaudetteIrere joined the launch of the first Mastercard Foundation EdTech Fellowship Cohort, an important step in supporting Rwandan innovators developing technology solutions to improve teaching and learning. Speaking at the event, the Minister of State highlighted the value of local innovation in addressing education challenges, noting: “By supporting locally driven education technology solutions, the Fellowship creates opportunities for Rwandan innovators to develop practical responses to challenges within our education system while expanding learning opportunities for underserved communities.”

They will take part in a Diagnostic Camp from May 11-13, 2026, where we will have deep dive sessions to better understand their needs and support their growth.
