However, remember that capture-recapture assumptions are only met in a fishbowl. For that, #spatialcapturerecapture have been developed, and nowadays is a method to estimate #wildlife abundance widely applied

new R package called 'umbs' by Ken Kellner who is a wizard. See announcement here:

This package uses STAN as a Bayesian engine to fit the models in unmarked (which all use marginal likelihood). unbs allows random effects in the unmarked models
