If a sports centre now decided a transwoman couldn't use a female changing room because they were born male, surely a transman would have to move to the female changing room? I've rarely seen that discussed by those celebrating today's ruling. #TransRightsAreHumanRights

Today's ruling says this is NOT a win, and stated that nothing changes in protection of trans people. Goes further to say that trans people are covered under sex discrimination of the gender they align with. No laws or protections are changed by this ruling.

I suppose it's too much to hope that the second point from the UK Supreme Court will be heeded 'He counsels not to see this as a triumph for one side over another and stresses the law still gives trans people protection against discrimination.' #TransRightsAreHumanRights

Auschwitz was at the end of a long process. We must remember that it did not start from gas chambers. This hatred was gradually developed by humans. From ideas, words, stereotypes & prejudice through legal exclusion, dehumanization & escalating violence... to systematic and industrial murder. Auschwitz took time.

Brilliant news - very well deserved @PHanlon17
Thank you so much @GeriSoc for this #BGSRisingStar award! It’s a hugely exciting time to be doing research to better support people living with frailty and long-term conditions. Very grateful for the award, and to the many who have supported me to far.

🧡Access to puberty blockers for young trans men and women has now been banned in the UK because of concerns about a lack of evidence regarding their impact - but the study to address this has not yet started. If we are to be led by clinical data not the culture wars in 1/2

Outright ban on puberty blockers for young people with gender dysphoria is a dark day. What is the alternative support? CAMHS already on its knees. There is a balance needed to meet needs for any group - for this group, the balance is now firmly pushed against them.

A plea to @wesstreeting - in recent years, Labour has always championed mental health, please do not change that. Suicide is the leading cause of death among men aged 35-49 and for men and women aged 20-34 years I know times are tough, but we have to prioritise mental health and suicide prevention As well as being the right thing to do, the economics are also clear: in 2022, suicide had an overall cost of at least Β£9.58 billion in the UK. πŸ™πŸ™
Am growing increasingly concerned that the government is about to take a backward step on mental health which will do further damage to its standing and more importantly damage care for people in need. The mental health sector was desperate for a change of government because services were in such a state but if the rumoured dropping of the Mental Health Investment Standard is confirmed it will feel like a kick in the teeth to so many. Mental health waiting lists were not in last week’s Plan for Change, which set alarm bells ringing. Mental health accounts for a fifth of the U.K. disease burden with less than 10pc of funding. If MHIS is axed, funding share is likely to fall as demand rises. I can’t see how this fits with the β€œhospital to community, prevention rather than cure” planks of @wesstreeting strategy, the parity between mental and physical health promised in the manifesto, or the commitment to get economically inactive people into work. It doesn’t make sense and I hope it does not happen.
