On
#WorldSchizophreniaAwarenessDay observed last month, we were reminded of the profound impact that compassionate, comprehensive
#mentalhealth care can have on a person's life. Last year, our department of
#Psychiatry cared for over 1 lakh patients through the dedicated efforts of our multidisciplinary team of psychiatrists, psychologists, nurses, therapists, and educators.
Behind these numbers are real stories of resilience -like Priya (name changed), a professor, recently admitted for psychosocial rehabilitation, who has navigated schizophrenia for over a decade. Our
#occupationaltherapy team helped her gradually reintroduce meaningful activities into her routine, sparking a renewed motivation for independent work and daily self-care. The transformation has been incredible.
In Priya's own words:
"What I observed is that therapists show patients that whatever they want to do, they can do it gradually. Once we start to taste the sense of accomplishment, we can break barriers. During the years when I was sick, I had no will to survive. I was drifting along without an anchor. Now, I have a purpose."
Today, Priya successfully handles a full workload and takes on active responsibilities for her family.
To help individuals like Priya, we are coming together to raise ₹5 lakh for essential therapy equipment for patients facing mental health challenges. Your gift, whether big or small, does more than fund equipment - it restores confidence, independence, and hope.
