ALT Vegetation Drought Response Index (VegDRI) map for Oklahoma dated May 31, 2026. The graphic, titled “How Brown Is My Valley,” shows widespread vegetation stress across the state due to drought. The most severe impacts are concentrated across western Oklahoma, where large areas are classified in severe to extreme drought vegetation conditions, including an area of extreme-to-exceptional drought highlighted in the southwest. Central Oklahoma shows moderate drought stress, while eastern Oklahoma generally exhibits less severe vegetation impacts, with conditions closer to normal in some locations. The map illustrates how drought has translated into increasingly brown and stressed vegetation across much of Oklahoma.

ALT USDM Hot Topic June 4, 2026: the Southeast. Abnormal dryness through exceptional drought improved: for abnormal dryness or drought, from 100% to 97%; for moderate drought or worse, from 96.42% to 87.99%; for severe drought or worse, from 82.32% to 61.64; for extreme drought, from 39.45% to 26.49%; and for exceptional drought, from 8.41% to 2.01%.
