guys i’m starting to think twitter might not be a good forum for discussing nuanced, subjective, highly personal and emotionally charged matters like “how do i find emotional safety and sexual satisfaction in my marriage”

Female attraction is often responsive and contextual (what is he doing, where are we?) when imagining romantic fantasy. Work is desexualized; 3rd places are gone. I wonder if it’s harder to place imagined scenarios for attraction to known people in a setting that feels real?

i think everyone should learn how to calculate your “effective rent” for a given house purchase - that is, your monthly spend, minus equity gain where i live it reliably works out to between 75% and 50% of my current monthly rent
Why do people care so much about owning a house? It’s generally a better idea to rent, especially in areas with a high price/rent ratio. I don’t understand the emotional pull of home ownership.

it’s a little tricky: your monthly spend must include things like house maintenance and tax (obvious), but also things like “what if i had put my deposit in an index fund instead” still, you can get a reasonable estimate with a fairly simple spreadsheet

i call the more complicated stuff (factoring in gains from the housing market, what if you invested the money you’re instead spending on equity each month) a wash, and although that likely favours buying a /little/, it’s probably not enough to seriously change your decisions

starfish, broadly some parts of the whole rifters series (you should be very, very afraid)
One of my favorite questions to ask people right now is “what is the science fiction book you’ve read that you’re most surprised is coming true?”

Ugh I hate the work culture in [wealthy safe country]. They work all the time and all they talk about is work! The people in [poor unsafe country] know how to live. They don't work as much and don't concern themselves with careers and stuff. They hang out all day. That's life.
