Preliminary report from my research: I got active_support/all to load 2.53x faster on windows. That's 6 seconds on my build server. Concurrent-Ruby 2.71x faster.
gtk3 1.41x times.

If you set a capacity for a #Ruby String and do a `.clear`, the capacity is lost, right? So, it builds from 0 now? Couldn't find clarity on this - found a question by @ioquatix and an issue under discussion by @_byroot.
Trying to optimise some data processing.
JRuby 10.0.6.0 released! Updated jruby-openssl, faster Java interface support, and many other fixes and improvements. JRuby 10.0.x is our LTS version, so upgrading is recommended.

Was playing with Qwen Coder Next locally and it wrote some code for Ruby to run on #JRuby, and it's interesting that it weaved in a bunch of Java calls for higher performance...
Got to try the code to see how it actually works 🙂

JRuby is an implementation of Ruby 4.0 built on the Java Virtual Machine. For the past 20 years we've expanded the horizons of Ruby, bringing more jobs and more opportunities to Rubyists like you
Good news! I have been added to the RubyConf 2026 schedule to present JRuby and all the ways it lets you use Ruby when CRuby doesn't fit! I'm glad that the new @rubycentralorg values community and understands the importance of JRuby. Twenty years of JRuby...don't miss this talk!
It's wild how DuckDB just comes with a secrets manager right out of the box. You can use a SQL command to save the creds you need either in memory or persistent creds saved to disc. You can easily DROP the creds when you don't need them anymore. Totally saves you from .env's.
Why must we do all #DavidTennant stuff at the same time? Good Omens S3 and Rivals S2, ...and even HIGNFY! What are we supposed to do for the rest of the year...!

If you hold CTRL SHIFT when you click on the Windows Terminal icon in the taskbar then it will open terminal as admin. On Windows 11 you can also right click the terminal icon, and then hold CTRL SHIFT and click the specific profile you want launched as admin
In a brief respite from regular days, it's a good articulate timeline day with @hughlaurie & @ShashiTharoor both trending on it. I share a school with one (though he went many years before me) and would love to meet either or both, if it ever happens.

Who is the most underrated developer?
I'll start, @ioquatix. His work is pivotal to the next 10 years of Ruby, but you hardly hear about or see his work.
Been too busy lately to tweet every nice Ruby perf PR as I spot them. So I went through my notes and dumped all the notable ones into a single roundup. Some of these are insane (like 800000x speedup) - enjoy! 🚀

Omg! Now #Samsung#OneUI 8.5 has gone massive fonts and super wide padded controls that make your phone behave like a toddler's toy!
Hopefully, there's something buried in settings that will help (font-size, display zoom and resolutiom don't help)
Problems most Indians don't have due us needing to apply for visas with at least 6 months validity on them, for everything.
Also, a problem easily solved by spending 30min one day to put expiry dates and reminders into your calendar - for whatever notice period you need.
you're at the airport. pull out your passport for boarding. expired. two hours ago. you realize you haven't thought about that date in years. expiro catches this before you leave home — scans it once, reminds you at 30/7/1 days out. the thing about documents is they don't nag you. you have to nag yourself. #buildinpublic
