Posted this on the other site and now my mentions are full of beautiful memories of people growing up with these, keeping cut-outs, passing on that love to their own children. What a gift caring and cared-for art can be.

Look at our itsy bitsy baby list 🥹 8 in January 2024, 88 in December 2024. You'd think that would warrant some intervention in the way the sector is financed and governed...
This was the list mid-January. Six weeks on: adding @UCUNUbranch, @UoK_UCU moved to the top bracket, @UCU_YSJ joined the club, as did @uculincoln. Who else?

snarky letters, break-ins in union offices, silence about persecution of colleagues, bailiffs at dawn, court cases, kicking out toddlers, more court cases, ... All the more thankful for the lovely @QMSU and @QM_UNISON friends reminding us we can do this together.

Another year! And what a year it’s been… A thread of the biggest events – as a challenge to the short-termism of news cycles and a reminder of how much members worked towards a better university together with many brilliant grassroots organisations. 🧵

Only two weeks of 2024 to go. We'd like to leave behind in 2024: the exhausting intimidation, surveillance, breaking-in, non-consultations. We'd like to take with us int 2025 and well beyond: the excellent solidarity of members, students, community, and grassroots organisations

In love with the fact that in 1585 Francis Walsingham drew up a document titled 'A Plot for the Annoying of the King of Spain'

Academia losing a rather excellent participant; the world at large gaining one. (Very recognisable path, about the lack of mojo once you realise how little respect your overlords have for you, and the pointlessness of so much of it once you start questioning it...)
Leaving academia after 37 years! Latest piece in inews!

This was our 2023: x.com/qm_ucu/status/17367862… And this our 2022: x.com/qm_ucu/status/16084188… May our overview for 2025 be (1) shorter, (2) with fewer 'don't go full QMUL' moments, and (3) with just slightly fewer 'OMG, I'd forgotten about that madness, that was THIS year??' entries...

Will he be taking a pay cut from his day job of sacking people seeing as he’s only part-time now?

Didn’t know you could get appointed to government roles to explain how NOT to do it? Under his tenure, CU dug a £100 million pit. He’s, with questionable legality, pushing staff onto awful contracts of the subsidiary he is CEO of. Government associating with the best of #UKHE

“Happy” anniversary to this beautiful piece. Or how the Guardian was ahead of the curve in reporting on #UKHE mismanagement. All redundancies may have made the headlines in the months after, but underlying those is the transformation of academic work & managers’ hapless spending
The miserly tale of how a university took its staff’s wages – and the public paid the price. My column on a modern-day Scrooge theguardian.com/commentisfre…

We’re counting down our most popular posts of 2024. In at number 9 was this delightfully intriguing book, which offers a reward for NOT reading it. Mary Agnes Hamilton must have been confident her whodunnit, Murder in the House of Commons, was a page-turner. Could you resist?

Logging off for the holidays! See you in 2025 🥳 (and a reminder of why we didn't have a social media Christmas break last year: the Guardian was ahead of the curve of reporting on the mismanagement in #UKHE: theguardian.com/commentisfre…. Let's get more insightful coverage in 2025.)
