This morning, UK forces boarded a Russian tanker in the English Channel that was secretly helping to bankroll Putin's war in Ukraine. The first operation of its kind led by British forces, and a clear message: there is nowhere to hide.

As drones reshape conflicts from Ukraine to the Middle East, we are focused on innovating faster. Defence Secretary @DanJarvisMBE opened the new Uncrewed Systems Centre at DroneTEX, Europe’s largest drone testing facility, designed to develop and field capabilities at pace.

Across Ukraine, women and girls continue to face displacement, disrupted education and healthcare, and increased caregiving responsibilities, while remaining central to their families, communities, and recovery. Together with @YvetteCooperMP, @SenatorWong and the First Lady of Ukraine, @ZelenskaUA, we reaffirmed our commitment to ensuring their voices, needs, and leadership are at the heart of Ukraine’s recovery.

A course of action has been approved – to increase the financial sustainability of our defense and ensure the continued transformation of the Ukrainian Army. First – pay. We have the resources to increase pay in the military. The minimum will be 30,000 hryvnias in rear areas. The more combat missions, the higher the level of pay. There will be new, significantly stronger contracts for infantry personnel. On average, 300,000 hryvnias on the front line. Everything depends on our Ukrainian infantryman. The contracts will be structured to ensure clarity: contract terms of 10, 14, and 24 months with clear conditions – meaning clear temporary discharge. Guaranteed terms – and real temporary discharge. In addition, payments for Ukrainian combat commanders will be increased, and this should create a positive incentive to preserve command experience within the Army. Second, I am grateful to all the volunteers from other countries who are fighting for freedom in Ukraine. I have instructed that significantly more opportunities be opened for foreign volunteers to join the Ukrainian Army. There will be additional recruitment mechanisms to support this. Third, further simplification of transfers for warriors, more opportunities to advance within the Army, and more positive incentives to join the defense. I expect every element of the changes now being implemented to show its effectiveness this summer. The Ministry of Defense will present the details of the decisions.

Today, the European Union took a major step forward. All Member States agreed to open the first accession negotiations cluster with Ukraine and Moldova. At the first Intergovernmental Conference on Monday, we will open the cluster on fundamentals; the backbone of the accession process. It covers the core values and principles on which the EU is built, from the rule of law to strong democratic institutions. This is a recognition of the determination, courage and hard work shown by both countries in advancing reforms, even in the face of immense challenges. And a signal that the EU’s offer of peace, stability and opportunity is unmatchable. Enlargement is a strategic choice. By bringing our nations closer together, we strengthen peace, security and prosperity across our continent. In a world marked by growing uncertainty, a larger European Union is in our common interest. Enlargement remains one of the EU’s greatest success stories and our best investment in our shared future.

We have intel indicating that Russia is preparing a new massive attack. Please pay attention to air raid alerts and stay safe. Air defense and the continued need to help Ukraine protect its skies are our key priorities. I am grateful to every partner, every leader, and every country that is ready to help and that implements our arrangements in full. The PURL initiative must work. This concerns both the United States and Europe. We are pooling funds from our European partners and other friends to purchase missiles, including for Patriot systems. Sufficient supplies depend on America, and we hope that Ukraine will be heard.

Last night a Russian drone entered Romanian airspace and hit a residential building, injuring civilians. Time and again, Russia has shown it has no regard for civilian life, international law, or sovereignty of its neighbours. We stand with Ukraine, Romania and all NATO allies.

Більшу частину свого життя я ношу військовий однострій. Але вишиванка для мене – це про пам’ять. Про дім, родину, дитинство, про людей, яких уже немає поруч, але які завжди в наших думках. Сьогодні Всесвітній день вишиванки. Колись це була ініціатива кількох студентів, а тепер День вишиванки став справді світовим. Українські вишиванки одягають у різних країнах, на фронті й у тилу, у великих містах і маленьких селах. У цьому, мабуть, є щось дуже важливе для всіх нас – навіть у найважчі часи пам’ятати, хто ми та звідки. І я вірю, що настане день, коли ми зможемо зняти військові однострої та знов одягнути вишиті сорочки – уже в мирній, вільній і безпечній Україні. З Днем вишиванки! Бережімо своє!
