Ever tried locating a grid reference from an old after-action report? I'm reconstructing the GSGS and AMS sheet series, both boundaries and printed grids, as geographic data. Look up by sheet number, then pin historical overlays and text references straight onto a modern map.

Adding support for 2525/APP-6 Edition E was more work than anticipated! It’s mostly done, but needs more testing. For now, Edition E is only available in the standalone symbol browser if you want to check it out (link below).
ORBAT Mapper currently supports MIL-STD/APP-6 Edition D. The latest is Edition E, and the changes are significant: a new 30-digit symbol code, new common modifiers, plus tons of additions, removals, and changes. It’s a bit of a mess... (1/2)

Now also with a standard identity dropdown. After all, not everyone is a friend.

Not getting tired yet of the daily Waterloo content? Because I have good news and bad news. The good news: we’re almost at June 15. The bad news: once the hike starts, there will probably be even more Waterloo content.

I've updated my exploration of 2525/APP-6 Edition E with more examples and mapping values. The new cyberspace icons are cute. Link below 👇

I'm not yet sure what the best strategy for implementing the new version in ORBAT Mapper is. Many C2 systems do not even support edition D of the standard, so the new symbols are probably not well known.

Been working on a new thingie the last weeks. People might have encountered my “Universal Reference” before, and this is sort of the same but so much better, and it only requires a web browser. (No internet connection required.)

To prepare the upgrade I've tasked Claude to put together an interactive report that highlights the differences orbat-mapper.github.io/pages… Thanks to @spatialillusion for providing the symbology data! (2/2)

Links below for trying out my new tools for making simple range and route maps. Several upgrades including the ability to export to GeoJSON or KML. But mainly just for making simple locator maps. mapspam.net/multirings/ mapspam.net/rangefan/ mapspam.net/greatcircles-v5/…

ORBAT Mapper is phasing out OpenLayers to focus 100% on MapLibre. The old map won't get new features and will be removed soon. Missing anything in the new map? Let me know!

OpenLayers has served me well, and I honestly still prefer its API and DX in many ways. The switch comes down to two things: better vector map support and globe mode.

Another sneak peek at my little side project. Far from done, but it will be a nice addition to ORBAT Mapper once finished.
