Encouraged to hear @wesstreeting comments on
@BBCr4today on early diagnosis of #ProstateCancer. @ProstateUK have already outlined solutions which directly address his points. We're calling for urgent action so that stories like Sir Chris Hoy’s can be avoided 💙
[1/5] We're grateful to Sir @ChrisHoy for so bravely and openly telling his story on @BBCBreakfast this morning, and we welcome news that the Government is now actively looking into testing men who have a family history of #ProstateCancer from the age of 45.

The @ProstateUK Risk Checker is the wording from the current NHS Guidelines. We hope these will be updated soon, but in the meantime I'm sure you agree that raising awareness of risk and explaining pros and cons of the PSA test is a good place to start prostatecanceruk.org/for-hea…
Unfortunately, the @ProstateUK risk checker just ends up telling everyone over 50 they are at risk.
Not a great tool. In fact, far from it given its over-simplification.
And yes, many have told them this!
We are saddened by Sir Chris Hoy's terminal cancer diagnosis.
Like many, he was diagnosed too late. The PSA blood test is vital for early detection, yet guidelines stop GPs from offering it.
We join @ProstateUK in urging the Government to revise these guidelines & save lives.
We are saddened to read the news that Sir @chrishoy is facing a terminal cancer diagnosis.
Men simply should not be diagnosed with #ProstateCancer at Stage 4.
But sadly, Sir Chris is one of thousands of men in the UK who have received their diagnosis too late.
The current system is failing men.
It's unjust, it's unfair, and it's time to put an end to it.
That's why yesterday we gathered at #Westminster with researchers, people with lived experience and policy makers to share our new programme for government

Very few people realise that the vast majority of hospice and palliative care is provided by charity - not by the NHS.
I think this is a national scandal.
Please RT if you do too 🙏
In this interview with @skynewsniall, Dr Rachel Clarke (@doctor_oxford) emphasises the need to prioritise quality end of life care.
Regardless of Parliament's decision on assisted dying, fixing the funding of our struggling hospice and end of life care system is essential.

Thanks to the @thetimes covering the new PSA consensus. Delivered by @ProstateUK and a whole raft of experts and patients. This is a monumental achievement that will shift the dial to improve the diagnosis of prostate cancer.
Thousands of lives could be saved if the NHS overhauled “dangerously outdated” guidelines that stop men getting tested for prostate cancer, landmark research has concluded ⬇️
