This is a good summary. The US and especially Trump for electoral reasons needs the war to stop. But Iran gained a lot from the conflict while the US achieved nothing. Trumps price was to stipulate an agreement to negotiate on nukes. But that’s what the US and Iran were doing before the war started. So the nuclear component certainly looks like a fig leaf to give Trump some plausible deniability about how badly this went for the United States. As Dan notes, the US has no real credible threat of force left, certainly not before midterms. This end game was basically inevitable from the first hours or days of the conflict. But we waited three plus months because Trump couldn’t face the reality of the scale of his defeat. And there’s still a good chance this falls apart because he still can’t come clean on that. Altogether, just a great job.

🚨 UPDATE: 8 people charged in Sex Ring “Underground Bunker” for Paying adults to Rape their Children and Pets — Ages 3-16. Trial delayed as mom pleads guilty and flips on co-defendants
In Bibb County, Alabama, eight suspects ran a sex trafficking ring out of an underground bunker where children as young as 3 were drugged, bound, and raped with adults paying to abuse them.
Animals were also targeted.
Rebecca Brewer and mother of some of the victims, pleaded guilty to sexual torture and nine counts of first-degree kidnapping. As part of the deal she agreed to testify against the other seven defendants.
The trial for the remaining suspects has been delayed while the case expands, including a federal investigation into at least one of them.
These monsters turned their own kids and pets into victims for profit.
How long will it take for every last one of them to face real justice?

The White House reminded reporters that constitutional mechanisms already exist to address situations in which a president is unable to perform the duties of the office, but it seems someone has decided to take extra precautions.
