I look forward to the day when someone appears on a TV news channel in front of a bookshelf that hasn't been curated for appearances, preferably containing the novels of Andy McNab or a DVD collection which includes a 'Police Academy' box set

The Economist really has lost the plot: this is exactly the de haut en bas contempt for plain folk that fuels the rise of the Right it affects to be so concerned about.
Fundamentally, the British right has bet that the British public are, for want of a better word, bastards econ.st/4uwTfqx Illustration: Nate Kitch

The riots in Belfast are both indefensible and entirely predictable. Medieval horrors now occur on a weekly if not a daily basis, and the elites refuse to do anything about it. We can’t keep ignoring the source of these simmering tensions, says Fraser Myers buff.ly/JoGA6VG

June is a month most people anticipate for various reasons, it heralding the Isle of Wight Festival, the Summer Solstice and Wimbledon. It's also a time many of us have come to dread, it being the occasion in which Pride Month is foisted upon a compliant and increasingly resentful population. What began in San Francisco in 1981 as simply the International Lesbian and Gay Freedom Day Parade has evolved into an entire month of worldwide celebrations chiefly dedicated to the trans movement, and at the expense of actual gay people. This metamorphosis can be seen by the original, simple Rainbow Flag having been supplanted by the chevroned, omnicause standard of the Progress Pride Flag. ✍️ Patrick West Article | spectator.com/article/the-ty…

telegraph.co.uk/obituaries/2… A nicely done obituary of Norman Balon, whom I once saw fire a barmaid on the spot (by, I strongly suspect, @BeardyHowse), especially the story about the black GI. I can't help thinking the 60s characters in the place inspired Michael Wharton's grotesques

Millennia of moral philosophy have come to a conclusion in the West Midlands, by people who have discovered what is eternally right and wrong - by people who want an inclusive conversation having already made their minds up
The Black Country Living Museum in Dudley now has a wonderful recreation of a 1960s public library, but why did they have to spoil it with nonsense like this?

As the late, great Barry Humphries might have said about the unfunny Nish Kumar, he’s someone who ‘identifies’ as a comedian.

Italy's answer to Rupert Lowe is having the same effect: both outflanking the mainstream rightwing populist movement and threatening to divide it
SARO' IL VOSTRO INCUBO! Addirittura in prima pagina su L'Espresso. Ieri comandante della TF 45 e incubo dei miei nemici, ora incubo del giornale sinistro-globalista-radical chic per eccellenza. Di questo passo Futuro Nazionale arriverà al 20% nel giro di qualche mese.

The majority of news stories nowadays are driven by the willful misinterpretation of asymmetric information.
It's not just the exploitation of a tragedy. JD Vance's picture of Britain - where migrants have led to a crime surge - is the opposite of the truth. comment.press/vance1234
