BT’s Annual Report, released earlier this week, shows the telco continues to make headway with its copper sideline. Last year’s cable recoveries were a remarkable 9,147 tonnes, vs 5,600 tonnes in the previous year. And spot copper (LME) is 30% above when I wrote the below tweet.
With spot copper having recently hit $10,000 per metric ton, it is worth noting that telco BT expects to recover 200,000 tonnes of scrap copper from its soon to be switched off legacy network. Lower recurring run costs from the new digital network plus a commodity windfall. Nice.

Bienvenue à Paris, cher ami Premier ministre @MichealMartinTD.

Interesting nugget in today’s morning note from @GoldmanSachs - “Taiwan’s stock market is now the largest MSCI EM constituent (24.8%), with its combined market cap now more than China (23.1% weighting), with TSMC accounting for ~57% of Taiwan’s weight”

This should be a bigger story in my view. Energy security is indistinguishable from national security.

M&S has been gaining market share in both of its primary business lines - Food and Fashion, Home & Beauty - supported by excellent product innovation. Behind the scenes, the recalibration of its supply chain offers the prospect of material efficiency gains to come (7/7)

Today, the Defence Forces Cavalry Corps Team (Callsign Shamrock 1) took home first place in the Bradley category in the 2026 Sullivan Cup. The Defence Forces Cavalry Corps team competed in the 2026 Sullivan Cup, hosted in Fort Benning, GA, USA. The purpose of the Sullivan Cup is to identify and recognise the most skilled armoured vehicle crews internationally. The competition consisted of gunnery live fire lanes by day and night, vehicle maintenance, crew knowledge, call for fire, AFV recognition, medical lanes and physical fitness challenges. Our team had a two week window to train up in theatre on the Bradley Fighting Vehicle having never used the platform before. After completing two weeks of training successfully, the competition started on 30 APR 26 and the Cavalry Corps emerged as the winners.

A remarkable milestone. Six of the world’s 10 largest exchanges (as measured by USD market cap) are in Asia - 🇨🇳 🇯🇵 🇭🇰 🇮🇳 🇹🇼 🇰🇷 - with the US, Canada, France and UK completing the list.
South Korea has leapfrogged the UK to become the world’s eighth-biggest stock market, fueled by a high-octane rally in its AI-linked technology champions bloomberg.com/news/articles/…

This is an underappreciated benefit of investing. Perks I get in my portfolio include discounted @Irish_Ferries sailings and money off hotel stays, meals & drinks from @D_Thwaites1807. If I lived in France I’d be all over @LVMH’s discounts on wine & spirits for delivery in France
#WTB I’m rarely a fan of shareholder benefits (as they’re rarely are worthwhile) but Whitbread’s may be the exception For c£1700 worth of shares you get one of these ⬇️ And it gets you free breakfast 🍳🥓 in Premier Inn for every night of your stay Value investing at its best?

On this day in 1915 the Royal Dublin Fusiliers and the Royal Munster Fusiliers landed on V Beach in Gallipoli. They didn't know the maelstrom that greeted them. Fortunately, the Connaught Rangers Association and the Boyle Men's Shed made a brilliant diorama about it for the centenary which I recorded for posterity.
