My hottest AI take has nothing to do with AI, and it's: we have needed formal verification of software, proof-carrying code, and correct-by-construction programs for at least 30 years, and now the widespread use of AI is going to force us to get serious about it.

(The immediate question everyone has when contemplating this is "Can we get the LLMs to write the verifications?" Yes, for uninteresting invariants, no for anything complex, and "maybe" if you have an automated environment loop verification until it is right, which is expensive.)

raw milk people are so weird like why THIS as the dumb idea you seized upon "i'm against hand-washing, it removes the beneficial bacteria from our most important appendages"

Insulted Leni Riefenstahl and suddenly flocks of twitter's finest notice-me-senpais are following me around the site, mad about it.

I've come to the conclusion that the best test for intelligence is whether you believe that it's unacceptable if the protagonist of a book is a bad person.

Fellas is eating things inhuman
I don’t know how it became normal and socially acceptable for grown people to walk about in groups with their tongues hanging out licking ice cream cones. What a bizarrely childish and somehow also bovine public activity.

It’s fine to choose to engage OR not to engage with some art. It’s fine to ignore art you suspect sucks. You don’t owe the art anything at all.

Spitting truth bombs
There is a 48 year old guy who doesn’t even know what brokerage his 401(k) is in that is outperforming you over the last 10 years It’s okay though, you got to spend 400 hours a year staring at charts and getting dopamine hits

Extremely rare #Pittsburgh version of this meme. Why would anyone hate on the dude doing the coolest possible thing one can do on the rivers?
And idiot of the year goes to this guy

This is a completely insane doomer take.
Elder Millennial weddings be like "come celebrate the start of their life together". You're both 38, it's not starting, it's already over.

This person is wrong. You should only be following the investment advice of someone who is down exactly 2.62% today. Everyone else is a bozo.
if you’re not down at least 10% today your investment advice is not worth following

This is also why you want property taxes to go UP, not down. Low (or no) property taxes encourage owners to squat on unproductive properties and keep prices artificially high. Property taxes should be sufficiently high that keeping a property vacant *hurts*.
Sellers are delusional and I’m tired of people pretending they aren’t. Home prices need to drop 30% or more most markets or this number is going to keep growing.

Another weird thing about this insane take is the idea that liking a walkable city means you hate cars. Use cars for things they're good at. "Popping over to the corner store for a couple of items" is a dumb way to use a car for thing it's bad at.
Question to the β€˜walkable city’ advocates who hate cars: If you go to the grocery store and have eight bags (or even four bags) of groceries, how do you get them home? You push around a little cart or something? Sounds bad.

When I'm catering the feast of the seven fishes? Yes, I take a car to Costco. When I need a couple of ingredients to prep for tonight? Walking to the corner store is better along literally every axis.

Found a person who has no idea how grocery stores work.

If your 1970’s home is now worth $1M, you’re on the hook for ~$10K/yr (complimentary).
If your 1970’s home is now worth $1M, you’re on the hook for ~$10K/yr. Based entirely on unrealized gains. That’s absurd for the fixed-income elderly. Property taxes SHOULD be abolished for Boomers. But they should be abolished for everyone else too. Property taxes are evil.

Showing my sophistication by pronouncing "Die Hard" as if it's German for "The Hard".

The problem with this argument is that I, personally, am annoyed at having ADULTS next to me in public spaces. But unlike the kid-haters, I understand that I cannot always get what I want.
I wasn’t going to weigh in on another round of kids-in-public discourse, but eh what the hell. This has little to do with child behavior. Even if all kids were angels in public, a large chunk of people would be annoyed at having a kid next to them in an β€œadult space” because…
