I can go most years barely seeing a Wall Brown
#butterfly. They are a red listed species in the UK & are rapidly declining. Last year, I decided to turn my front garden into a
#WildlifeFrontGarden. Prior to this, I’d never seen one in my garden & never dreamt I would. This year, I’ve had no less than 8 separate sightings of these beautiful insects in my
#WildlifeFrontGarden - a space of approx. 20sqm.
During September (their peak month), there were often two seen at the same time, suggesting they have, over the 2-3 broods they have each year, bred in my front garden.
This photo was taken today - October 16th - my latest ever sighting.
It has been a joy to watch them, basking on the walls of the house & my insect hotel, as well as making the most of the various nectar plants that I planted for them, particularly the Verbena Bonariensis.
It’s remarkable to know that they have been attracted to breed in a garden of just 20sqm. Don’t ever think that your garden/green space is too small to help wildlife 👍 🦋
