We are Philly Cultural Workers United, a union with chapters at PMA, Penn Museum, Please Touch Museum, and Schuylkill Center. Contact: 397staff@dc47.org
Heads up: change is coming to @PMA_Union social media!
We unionized @philamuseum in 2020, @pennmuseum in '21, @pleasetouch in '23, and will keep growing. Since we bridge multiple museums, we're soon gonna post with a new name!
But don’t be confused: same content, new name!
Earlier this week, our chapter at the Penn Museum voted unanimously to ratify their new union contract! Their win follows weeks of intense negotiations. The previous contract expired on June 30th and members had voted unanimously to authorize a strike if necessary.
PMA contract ratified! Last night, members of our chapter at the Philadelphia Museum of Art voted 99% to ratify a new 3-year union contract! The founding chapter of our local, PMA Union has been fighting for many of the wins in this contract since first unionizing in 2020!
Members of @pennmuseum Workers United (via @afscmeDC47 and @PhillyCWU) authorized a strike yesterday after their contract expired on Monday. They’re now back to bargaining.
The last @Penn strike? 1988, when Penn Police officers went on strike after wage negotiations broke down.
We are pleased to announce that we have reached an agreement with The Fabric Workshop and Museum @fabricworkshop for a voluntary recognition process, a first for any group joining Philly CWU-AFSCME 397! Read the full statement here: bit.ly/FWMUVR
Our union won a key victory when a federal judge agreed with AFSCME and ordered the Trump administration to cease its attempts to gut the Institute of Museum and Library Services—the only federal agency dedicated to our nation’s libraries and museums.

Yesterday I was arrested while participating in our May Day sit-in, alongside more than 70 other workers. I was proud to engage in civil disobedience with my union siblings. Solidarity.
We’re stickered up at Philly’s Independence Seaport Museum and ready to win our union! Our vote is this Wednesday and Rowan, a Shipboard Educator, is wearing her #UnionYes sticker 😎 excited to join @phillycwu@cwuafscme@PHLafscmeDC47
Our workplace rights weren’t given to us. They were won by workers around the world who refused to accept second-best working conditions. On #MayDay and every day, AFSCME and the labor movement carry their strength in our fight to protect and strengthen worker freedoms.
On International Workers’ Day, America’s unions celebrate the strength and solidarity of the labor movement and recommit to building worker power and justice around the world.
Solidarity forever! ✊

BREAKING: Judge grants a temporary restraining order to stop the shutdown of the Institute for Museum and Library Sciences thanks to a case brought by AFSCME, @ALALibrary and @DemocracyFwd.
This is a victory for our nation's library and museum workers. afscme.org/press/releases/20…
Hear from Oonagh in Visitor services @fabricworkshop: “I support the unionization…because I believe that FWM’s mission of elevating and supporting artists should include the skilled artists and staff that work throughout the museum departments to facilitate the museums success”
Premiering this May Day: A brand new short film from Philly DSA, “FOOD FIGHT: The First Whole Foods Union” about Philly Whole Foods workers who took on one of the most powerful companies in the world and won.
We blocked Elon Musk's DOGE from accessing your private Social Security data.
The administration tried to appeal that decision, but today a judge ruled the block stays in place.
AFSCME will never stop fighting to protect our Social Security!
JUST IN: The full bench of the 4th Circuit Court of Appeals votes 9-6 to maintain a block on DOGE's access to sensitive social security records.
