Yesterday I was arrested while participating in our May Day sit-in, alongside more than 70 other workers. I was proud to engage in civil disobedience with my union siblings. Solidarity.

HOLD THE LINE: 21 of our union members were arrested at City Hall yesterday for demanding what every working person deserves: a living wage, respect, and a seat at the table. This is what solidarity looks like.

Our workplace rights weren’t given to us. They were won by workers around the world who refused to accept second-best working conditions. On #MayDay and every day, AFSCME and the labor movement carry their strength in our fight to protect and strengthen worker freedoms.

On International Workers’ Day, America’s unions celebrate the strength and solidarity of the labor movement and recommit to building worker power and justice around the world. Solidarity forever! ✊ #MayDay

📣 Hotel workers in Philly are done waiting. Hundreds of hospitality workers took over City Hall on May Day to say loud & clear: if we don’t get our fair share,we’re ready to strike. These hotels are planning for record profits in 2026 & we’re not letting them leave us behind.

“SEIU is proud to stand with our union siblings, local and state governments, and partners in the democracy movement to stop the reckless and politically motivated purges of dedicated civil servants by this administration,” said @seiupres, April Verrett. “Federal workers, including SEIU members who are doctors and nurses in our VA health system, provide an essential service to our nation and our communities. The gross overreach of this administration will not stand. Even as we fight to restore these vital federal jobs, we are mobilizing to protect Medicaid, protect our public schools and create an America in which every worker can join a union.”

This is what union power looks like!
We are sitting in Houston Hall for a scheduled negotiation session with Penn Management. They are refusing to meet with us. Why? They want us to close bargaining to our union members, who have a legal right to participate in these negotiations. What is Penn so afraid of?

That’s a wrap on the Philly Aflcio annual leadership conference in AC. Proud to be there alongside so many Philly union siblings. Thank you to the leadership, staff, and board of @phillyaflcio for organizing and hosting this important convening at this critical junction point.

Repeat after me: HR is not your friend. They exist to protect & defend the company's interests. Not yours. Need help addressing a problem in the workplace? Talk to your union steward. No union? Then organize! nytimes.com/2025/01/11/busin…

Here’s your periodic reminder that as a union worker, you have #WeingartenRights! That means if you’re ever pulled into a meeting that may be related to your discipline, you have the right to ask for a shop steward or union rep present!

Calling any UPenn union people: How are you handling "at will" boilerplate language in Workday's position acceptance letter? Union members are NOT employees "at will," & Library says language cannot be changed. Is this true? Feels like gaslighting to me.
