A quick excursion to the Mall yesterday to visit Mr Lincoln. And I can confirm the reflecting pool still reflects! And can we talk about the humidity in DC in June? This guy from the dry Mountain West is dying here! 🥵

Stevie Wonder, Songs In The Key of Life This is my first spin of this classic 1976 release. It’s crazy that he was about to give up music and move to Ghana and was convinced to stay and keep recording. This 3-disc LP dominated the charts and the Grammies. Incredible stuff.

Tina Turner, Private Dancer One of the defining artists of the ‘80’s, this 1984 album re-launched her into the stratosphere, and her videos helped launch MTV. So many hits! This is a 40th Anniversary release on 180g pearl vinyl, remastered and pressed in Germany in 2025.

The Pretenders, Eponymous A flashback to 1979 and the year I graduated from high school and started college. This was one of those albums I didn’t have, but friends did, and I listened with them. Brass In Pocket was an early video on MTV. This is a 2023 MoFi Half-speed Master

Foreigner, 4 A little’80’s rock for the evening, with this banger from Foreigner originally released in 1981. Juke Box Hero, Waiting for A Girl Like You, & Urgent were all massive hits. This is a 2013 Dutch reissue on 180g vinyl. I didn’t have a copy in ‘81. At last I do.

Dire Straits, Eponymous I couldn’t let the 48th anniversary of the debut of this masterpiece pass without a spin. I was a HS Junior and this album just wasn’t on my radar at the time. I didn’t hear it until Freshman year in the college dorms. This is a 2021 Rhino release.

Genesis, Abacab This is showing up in my timeline the last couple days, and I figured it’s time to give my copy a spin. As I recall, multiple color combinations of the cover were available. This is my OG from 1981. Was that really 45 years ago? Sounds timeless to me…

Rickie Lee Jones, The Magazine Sunday morning’s first spin is the third full album she released in 1984, and this is my OG copy. Moody & atmospheric, at times bright & enthusiastic. Features Jeff Porcaro & Steve Lukather among the musicians. I don’t play this nearly enough.

Rickie Lee Jones, Pirates Why haven’t I listened to this incredible album in such a long time? Why didn’t I realize until now that Donald Fagan and Steve Lukather played on this album? This is my OG 1981 pressing, one of a very few purchased at a time when money was scarce.

Rickie Lee Jones, Self-titled Starting a bright, beautiful Saturday morning with an old friend. This is my OG 1979 Jacksonville pressing of her debut album. When I first heard “Chuck E’s In Love” on the radio at age 17, I was smitten. I’m still enraptured by her voice.

Talk Talk, The Colour of Spring A newly acquired repress of the 1986 original album. Sadly it was damaged in shipment so a replacement is ordered. I’m pleased with the album, however. Beautiful compositions, beautiful production. Truly a wonderful spin for a summer evening.

U2, The Unforgettable Fire A new acquisition, the 2009 remaster of this album originally released in 1984. It’s a very different sound for U2, very atmospheric, and not the rock-anthem style of previous records. Pride (In the Name of Love) was the big single.

Pink Floyd, The Wall I’m not sure why this just fits my mood tonight. Reflective, a little melancholy. Lots of anxiety and some anguish. “Is there anybody out there…”

Talk Talk, It’s My Life This is my first-ever spin of this 40th Anniversary release of this German half-speed remastered album originally released in 1984. It’s one of those albums I’ve wanted for so long, and finally pulled the trigger. It’s at once new, but familiar.

Daryl Hall John Oates, Rock ‘N Soul Part 1 It’s a day for comfort music that I know so well. Are there any of these songs I haven’t heard hundreds of times? The perfect album for background music while I do chores this afternoon. This is a 2017 remaster and release.
