Nebraskans have already spoken. In 2024, voters rejected a statewide private school voucher program. That decision reflected clear concerns about accountability and funding priorities and demonstrated overwhelming support for Nebraska's public education.

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again - Nebraskans do not support their tax dollars going towards funding private schools. I’m glad to see this change in the budget. nebraskaexaminer.com/2026/03…

Public schools in Nebraska are responsible for educating every student who walks through their doors, regardless of ability, background, or need. Voucher programs redirect public dollars to a separate system that is not held to the same standards or responsibilities.

76% of voucher applicants are wealthy families already in private school. We knew this would happen — and Republicans voted down my amendment to prevent it. Voucher scams are a taxpayer-funded handout for the wealthy.

Greg Abbott makes 5.5 million public school kids take a deeply flawed STAAR test in the name of “accountability” while kids in private school who get a taxpayer-funded voucher get a pass. That’s wrong. As a mother with a son in public school, when I’m governor I’ll make it right by ending the STAAR test & the voucher scam.

I watched State Senator Armendariz look her constituents in the eyes, after she was asked if she would support vouchers even though her district voted them down - and say “I will vote how I feel, it doesn’t matter how they voted.” And that seems to sum up too many NE senators.
In 2024, Nebraska voters rejected private school vouchers by nearly 60%. Voters in 45 of 49 legislative districts said NO. So did Jim Pillen and Pete Ricketts accept the will of the voters? Of course not.

We are in a budget crisis but @SenatorRicketts and @jim_pillen are bullying state senators to keep 3.5 million in the budget to fund private schools...even though over 65% of Nebraskans voted against this on the ballot. One-party Republican corruption. Vote for Dems and Indys.

Nebraskans voted against public dollars going to private schools. Adding $3.5 million to the budget when we are over $600 million in the hole is mismanagement of taxpayer dollars. These types of politics do not reflect the values of Nebraska. nebraskaexaminer.com/2026/03…

On Election Day in 2024, Nebraska voters sent a message. Nearly 60% of voters rejected school vouchers. Voters in 82 of our 93 counties – red counties and blue counties alike – agreed that we SHOULDN’T divert taxpayer money to private schools with zero accountability. Now, Jim Pillen is trying to sneak in a state-level voucher program. He’s also trying to cut Special Education funding by $18 million. Why do they constantly ignore the will of Nebraska voters?

The Governor's budget cuts $18 million in Special Education funding, and creates a $7 million private school voucher program. Makes absolutely no sense and is a slap in the face to Nebraskans who sent a clear message at the ballot box last election.
