Regardless of what I think about some of Elon's actions, there’s something deeply touching about this picture

Complex, but simple. Beautiful, but not too shiny.

Adding macOS 27 inspired sidebar glow to screen.studio It is watching the canvas and generating glow in realtime using typegpu. Had a lot of fun cooking it.

That’s the only picture I have from our @appjsconf stand. We clearly need some better content marketing

Just met the people behind @screenstudio, full circle moment! The people preventing our videos from exploding are even cooler than the software they make 😀 Elite tool. Absolute legends! And we obviously use it at @coderabbitai too! Thx @pie6k and @AL8ATROS 🤜 🤛🏽

The teacher's approach here makes me sad. The girl at 0:31 discovered a new pattern followed by the other kids, which helped them finally solve it It feels like group-driven evolution, but we only have one winner, with the rest feeling 0 motivation to cooperate in the future

About yesterday's cancellation email Yesterday, some of you (24k people…) received an email saying your Screen Studio subscription had been canceled. We've seen the concern in your replies. Here's what actually happened and what we've done about it. What happened The cancellation was a human error on our payment provider's side. It wasn't an attack, and it wasn't connected to your account or activity. What we've done Our payment provider is restoring all affected subscriptions automatically, so you don't need to take any action. PayPal subscriptions will take longer to restore, but we'll make sure your access to Screen Studio won't be interrupted. Your access to the app was not interrupted at any point. All your work, recordings, and settings remained available the entire time. Your data is safe There was no breach. No account was accessed without authorization. No customer information was lost, exposed, or compromised. If your subscription still shows as canceled, or anything seems wrong with your billing or app access, email us at team@screen.studio. We'll fix it directly. I'm genuinely sorry for the confusion and stress this caused.

Update on the subscription cancellation emails: We've already resolved this with our payments operator, Lemon Squeezy. It turns out it happened by accident on their side due to a support agent mistake. Their team is already handling it, and your subscription should be restored very soon. Your access to the Screen Studio app should stay uninterrupted in the meantime. We're sorry for the inconvenience and confusion. If you have any questions, we're happy to help.

Heads up: some Screen Studio users received a subscription cancellation email from Lemon Squeezy. We're in touch with Lemon Squeezy and looking into the root cause. This should not affect your access to the app. We'll post an update as soon as we know more.

It's an unimpressive-sounding word, but one of the most powerful motivations is the motivation of the hobbyist. That's what keeps successful founders working on their companies long past the point when they've made enough to quit. It's their beloved project.

I love this idea from @jasonfried "Your only competition is your costs." Keep costs low, keep the team small, make stuff you want to use. You don't need the whole world: “A business is very simple. You got to make more than you spend. If you're making more than you spend, then your competition is your cost. That's what you're really in business against, how much it costs you to stay in business. It's not all the other alternatives that are on the market. You can't control what they're going to put out there, what they're going to price it at, all the things they're going to do. They're going to do what they're going to do. What I can control is how much it costs me to run my business, how much I sell my product for, and as long as I make more than I spend, I get to stay in business. And isn't that what this is all about, staying in business? That's what it's all about because I like this. I want to keep doing this. I can't keep doing it if I don't stay in business. I can't keep doing it if I make less than it costs me to make the things that I make. So I'm always thinking about the only competition I really have on an annual basis is to make sure that we make more as a company than it costs us to run the company. That's my real competition.”

When I was at Apple, I loved working on micro interactions that you see all over the OS. Now that I’m not an apple I still like to solve for these little problems that really annoyed me. In this case, I designed a backspace button with a speed controller, so by just pressing it you can delete by letter and then immediately by word as you stretch it, without having to wait (like it usually does on the OS) and then if you stretch a little more, you can speed delete through words… I’m also working on another one where you can repair the words if you over-deleted it by accident 😜 (it also has haptic feedback, which makes it really fun)

Do not offer free tier. It’s better to have 10x smaller conversion but to have real customers: - if something doesn’t work - paid users will write you angry emails with feedback. Free users will just leave and you’ll learn nothing - if you have 20 free users you don’t really know if you have 1 real customer - you need to wisely manage your dopamine and having first real $ is a big boost - it’s always easier and less stressful to lower the price later than to make it higher or to force existing customers to pay - it your idea doesn’t work at all you’ll learn about it sooner
You can give a first-time founder just one piece of advice. What is it?

25,000 people used @screenstudio last month. We’re still a team of 5. No investors. Every hire came directly from our revenue. There’s something humbling about that. But also something that’s been holding us back. It’s time to think bigger.

Reminds me of some old-school Flash-based web design from, like, 2005. Who knows, fashion seems to work in cycles, and AI will likely make the cycle move way faster
